I reasoned with him on my first playthrough solely to get approval from Em🅷mrich. This playthrough I punched him to get approval from basically everyone else.
I think I must be a Bioware contrarian. I finished my first playthrough one morning and started my second playthrough that evening, and I've been having a great time. I chose 🅷a different faction and I've made concerted efforts to make different decisions than last time. I also really love Rook--they're an actual character with nuanced responses as opposed to the stereotypical noble, sarcastic, aggressive ones. I didn't go into the game expecting it to be the exact same as it was fifteen years ago, so I think I'm having more fun than people who hoped it would be more like Origins. Whatever the reason, I'll definitely be replaying it again, and probably still having a blast.
I'm rarely on the side of anyone who claims there's only one right way to play a game. If a mod makes a game more accessible or enjoyable for a player, great. There are also times when games literally need mods to work--I wanted to replay Dragon Age Inquisition before Veilgu💯ard came out, and you literally need a mod to make the DLC function. Games are supposed to be fun, so if you find it fun to use mods, cool, and if you don't, also cool.
I only played Baldur's Gate 3 from January-May. Finish a balance run? Start on tactical. Finished as a bard Tav? Time to play monk/rogue Astarion. I final♑ly stopped when I was on an Ho♏nour run and accidentally killed Minsc. Once you see a giant miniature space hamster mourning over the corpse of his platonic soulmate, you know it's time to touch grass.
I'm a die hard fan, it's my favourite gaming franchise, I'm literally making maps of Thedas because of how obsessed I am--and I'm 100% fine with how few choices we're getting at the start of Veilguard. Given the dozens upon dozens of choices you make in the 3 games, it's not realistic to continue having all of them shape the ongoing narrative. The devs would be pulling their hair out on a daily if not hourly basis and the game would take another ten years to come out, if ever. When I see ot🍎her fans flipping over tables because Veilguard won't take into account if they gave Zevran a pair of gloves, I just retreat to my quiet corner and count the days until I get to ogle Varric's chest hair.
The Steam Deck enabled me to play new AAA games for the first time. I don't have a TV, so no Xbox or Playstation, and until last month I was using a 7𓃲-year-old laptop that practically set itself on fire if I tried to play Witcher 3. But with my Steam Deck, I actually got to play Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, a genuinely ungodly amo🔥unt of Baldur's Gate 3. After 2 years, it's still in really good shape, and when it does finally conk out, I'll definitely get a new one.
If it's a newer game, I'll absolutely want it to be as long as possible. I don't have the resources to drop $80 on something that'll only keep me occupied for a short period, so I'm usually looking for 100+ hours. I'm also someon✅e who will cheerfully do fetch quests for hours on end so long as I can be immersed in another world, so I'm probably an o𒐪utlier when it comes to the length of play I want from a game.
My astrophobia makes any scifi games pretty dicey. On an alien planet? Manageable. On a ship travelling through the incomprehensible void of space? I'd hurl the game straight into the su✱n.
DS9 tops the list for me. It has some truly goofy nonsense, 🌞and revisiting it from 30 years distance definitely reveals issues, but it grew into itself. The writing, the performances, the story arcs spanning seasons, Garak--it wasn't just great Star Trek, it was great TV.
It either says something about the current state of the intern♛et or my intelligence level that I thou⛦ght this was serious for way too long. Probably both.
I'm also doing a playthrough of everything before Veilguard comes out, and as I'm playing Origins I keep wishing I was playing DA2. I'm about the only person alive who likes Origins the least of the three, but my completionist strღeak means I need to finish the game and all the DLC before returning to Kirkwall. Can't wait to be back with Hawke and the gang.
Coral Island. Large swathes are ripped from Stardew, but it's much more inclusive, th🧸e writing is better, and with the recent updates I can finally rౠomance a gruff merman, which is clearly the most important factor.
