They Wouldn't Want An African Assassin's Creed Either
Also Bayek was a Medjay, a tribe🥃 from North Sudan. Also she complete ignores that Adéwalé and Aveline de Grandpré were other acclaimed main black ch⛎aracters in the series.
They Wouldn't Want An African Assassin's Creed Either
"The go-to gotcha for the 'set it in Africa' debate is the fact we've already had an Assassin's Creed in Africa, with Origins taking place in Egypt. It's an ineffective retort for two reasons. Firstly, there were no complaints about Bayek's skin colour or ethnic origin, thus proving the already-fake point that people would be fine with an African Assassin's Creed, and secondly, it's not typically what people mean. Yes, Egypt is geographically in Africa. But in the extreme north, ꦯand with its own legendary history, it feels like a very different biome than the jungles of Mozambique. " This is so wrong... first, no one would complain about having a black character in a AC game set in Egypt because there were a lot of people who looked like Bayek living there 2000 years ago. And yes, Egypt is northern Africa but Bayek is a Medjay (you would know if you played the game) and his tribe was originally from North Sudan. I am not saying that a lot of people aren't criticizing the game because of racism, but most people are complaining about Yasuke the same way they did about Tom Cruise's character in The Last Samurai: It doesn't make sense to put an historical character (in The Last Samurai's case is still aꦏn historical character but with a different name) in a completely different role than he had in real life. Simple as that. Trying to squeeze a "everyone is racist" narrative is just dumb and easily debunked.
