I love FF8, but asserting that it's better than FF7 is wild work. The materia management (i.e. menu diving) is a defining trait of many games in the genre, and FF7 pulls it off with aplomb. If the "tediousness" of JRPG gameplay is a turn-off, maybe go play Elౠden Ring or something.
