🎃The game was made for a niche market (modern audience they/thems gender♒ pseudoscientists) and it did perfectly well appealing to that audience. Unfortunately that market was not big enough to make the game profitable.

I think there were a few problems, but the clips going around the internet like the barv scene non binary scene, and others, really did not help. I think companies real♉ly underestimate how much people (especially gamers) dislike radical left wing identity politics in their games. You can get away with it in small doses only if your game absolutely smacks, like BG3. Otherwise it is just a final nail in the coffin for a mediocre game in a competitive market, and everyone will jump on its grave when it flops.
