You're definitely not alone. Dragon Age, unlike Mass Effect and the like, don't carry over the protᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚagonist from game to game and so the world state feels more like decoration than immersion to me.
