Split Fiction Is A Game About Writers That Doesn't Understand Writing
To all the bashers out there: the article is absolutely right. This game's take on writing is DUM. I praise i൩t for existing and am sharing with friends.
I am a writer🌸, and a professor who teaches creative writing. I've had five books published (not by me) and I have been teaching fiction writing at both the graduate and undergraduate levels for over a decade.
I also freaking love this game. I'm halfway through. The gameplay is amazing and I don't fault the itera💞tions of other properties.
BUT (or however, if one wants to be a douche): This story and the premise have absolutely zero🍃 connection to reality, or to what it's like to be a working or aspiring writer, and its take on the whole industry of writing and publishing stories and books (or heck, being a creative!) is exactly as insipid as th♉e article says.
Writing isn't about having wonderful imaginative ideas. It's about applying the craft to turn a good idea (which is cheap!) into a compelling story (which is diffi🌄cult). And honestly, I have undergrads who've managed to get published (short stories), but the idea that anyone would want to spend money and possibly abduct them to tap their brains for ideas is beyond beyond moronic.
I love the game despite the story! Folks🎃, these characters are not writers, and this isn't what writing for the page is like. Maybe they should have been video game desi🅺gners.
