I've been staying away from Veilguard news, but while disappointed this doesn't surprise me. Importable world states means any story woulꦯd have to account for all possible past events. It creates a lot of work (and potentially more bugs!).

By canonising certain events, from the comics we know Alistair is king and Sten the new Arishok, it allows the writers to continue a more focused narrative. As long as the writing is good, which I saw was one of BioWare's stronges⛄t points, this isn't necessarily a bad thing.
