The difference being that nobody cared for either avatar 1 or 2. It's a sci fi adaption of Pocahontas, and it's mostly (bad) CGI. Between half life 1 and two there also wasn't A 13!! Year wait just to have a very similar looking product out over a decade later. Half life 2🦩 expanded on half li🀅fe 1's mechanics. Avatar 2 still can't fool a toddler into thinking it's CGI is decent or real.
