The Last Of Us 2's Big Twist Was Written For A Game, Not a TV Show
I am so glad to read this after I just watched the show. I was an avid gamer but I didn't get around to TLOU before I became old. However, my wife and I watch HBO series religiously because even with all the streaming service's out there, there still aren't many comparisons to a good HBO series, (GoT, Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Rome,♋ and the list goes on). The Last of Us was shaping up to be one of those caliber shows. I would have thought that HBO would have learned from mistakes of the past like when they cut off Rome after 2 seasons, or had horrible finishes to some of their best shows, that would have been known as the best in history if not for those. I find myself agreeing with your partner completely. This may be the first time in history that my wife and I quit an HBO show after just 2 episodes into a season. If they are going to follow the story of a game to the point where they sacrifice all the incredible story telling they could've done by 🐭writing a new story of exploration, for what was likely one of the most complex and interesting characters and duo's, to ever be on screen, then it's just not for me.
There were so many directions they could have gone. When you adapt a game, it's awesome if you can stay somewhat true to the game. But stay true to it in terms of the ꦡworld and the characters, factions, and infected, all being in that world. The character arch for the most interesting character does not need to stick to a game storyline in my opinion, and they did the show, the actors, the characters and viewers, all a disservice by not adapting this differently to explore further such an interesting dynamic. It was just such an incredibly missed opportunity and most of all I feel for the writers, because as someone with similar experience, it can hurt a lot when you think back and wish you had done something differently.
But I know thᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚis was a ﷽catch for them and if they wrote it different, then there would be others complaining so...rock/hardplace
