Yoshi-P Says Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail's Wuk Lamat Abuse "Broke His Heart"
I think the biggest issue is that they focused a bit too much on her and it negatively impacted the other characters story arcs in the process. I✤t's not that she isn't a great character, she does have moments where s༒he shines. But other characters such as krile had important parts that I felt were either glossed over or completely skipped entirely. Like, wasn't the whole reason as to why alphinaud and Alisaie joined the group was so that they could help the imperial remnants rebuild? What did they learn? Because I certainly was never told.
The bigger issue in dawntrail is the lack of "Show, don't Tell" there was to much dialogue and nowhere near enough cutscenes where we saw proper development and character bonding. Instead we were kinda force feed the idea that we're just supposed🐬 to love Lamati without really getting to know her.
While are are proper bonding scenes, most are very poorly done, often rushing character development in order to push the story al💛ong, damaging the story and characters as a consequence.
Dawntrail suffers the same issue as prior expansions did, they should have split it up into two separate expansions. The Alexandria arc is where the flaws of Dawntrail's story telling begin to show. Between Lamati giving me emotional whiplash from how fast she bounced back from what should all means be a tragic event, to the very quick escalation into another inter-shard crisis when THE WHOLE POINT of Dawntrail was to be a break from that exact scenario. One of the best scenes was the scene right before the Alexandria arc began, that is💜 where dawntrail should have ended.
