I have always thought this would have been a good place to hide the mace of doom. An other great place would be in a hidden location in the great gate since that mission is on a timer. Since they went through the effort of fixing the mace in the remaster by Making it a mace instead of a blade and giving it an inventory icon I can't rule it out that it is or at some point 🐭will be findable in the wild.

If you want to get technical the villian's name in the first realease of the game was first Ivo Robotnik. The us version of the game came out over a month before the Japanese version. In facᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚt the Japanese market even got a different revision of the game. So even if a translation error or localization issue Robotnik came first.
