The Kingdom of Benin, located in what is now southwest Nigeria, was a major West African power until the late 19th century. The kingdom's involvement in the West African slave trade for over 200 years was a significant source of wealth. Benin officials captured men, women, and children from ri💝val tribes and sold them to the Arabs originally and later the Europeans.
