Zenless Zone Zero is an u𒐪rban fantasy gacha game released by miHoYo in July of 2024. This new setting is almost entirely different from their previous games, opting for comic book-like story progression and, similar to Honkai: Star Rail, consisting of a closed world.
Even the combat is fairly closed off, relegated to the Hollows that plague the city and the landscape. , often praising the fighting mechanics as being dynamic and engaging.
They’re not wrong either - as you get deeper into the combat you can wrack up high combo scores and find yourself switching out your characters often, pulling off stunts and fun moves. It’s only a shame that the combat doesn’t come around as often as one might like.
In fact, it’s because the combat isn’t super frequent that some players may find the game to border on boring, if not a bit tedious. At least the city you walk around in is fairly small and cozy. Cozy is a great descriptor for Zenless Zone Zero. Although the combat can be really exciting, the rest of the game feels fairly relaxing.
The characters are great too, with exceptionally memorable ones, like Billy, being introduced right off the bat. He’s spunky and probably only has two working brain cells, but he’s an absolutely delightful character. Billy might be exemplary, but he’s hardly the only fun and lively character in Zenless Zone Zero. They add some needed life into the, otherwise, relatively 💧domestic and calm town your home base - the Video Store - is in.
There are interesting mechanics outside of combat, but they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. The TV screen navigation section of traveling the Hollows isn’t going to be the most exciting mechanic in the world, but it has its merits. It takes away some of the pressure of being in the Hollows and helps t🌠o really situate you as a guide - a Proxy - rather than an active explorer.
Cozy games aren’t for everyon🌳e, and that’s okay. However, a nice game to unwind with that doesn’t feel like I have to keyboard smaꦉsh to win fights is much needed at times.
Time Expenditure
Zenꦿless Zone Zero i⛄s currently freshly released. As future updates come out, more content and time will be added to gameplay.
If you’re going to be playing Zenless Zone Zero, you can look forward to about 11-14 hours of story. It takes about an hour before you have access to the gacha elements, so be prepared to stra⛎p in for a minute if the gac💧ha is all you’re after.
You should also have daily and weekly missions to fill your time up between grinding and the main story mission. As such, you can probably expect to spend a lot more time in-game than the expected 11-14 hours.
Cost
Although Zenless Zone Zero is free, it’s also a gacha game, which means that you need to utilize the in-game currency if you want to get your hands on some super awesome characters. Like other gacha games, Zenless Zone Zero has several different types of currency, with one central one: Polychrome. Polychrome is utilized to buy Master Tape, which you can use to pꦍull for various characters and W-Engineꦡs.
The other two types of currency, Fading Signal, and Residual Signal, are both earned by pulling on the different characters and W☂-Engine Banners. Fadi🔜ng Signal is earned in a significantly higher number, of received on just about every Singal Search.
Subscription Pass
The Inter-Knot Membership is Zenless Zone Zero’s membership pass, costing USD$4.99. After buying it, you’ll get 300 Monochrome immediately and afterward will receive 90 Polychrome every day that you log in for 30 days. Assuming you log in every day for about a month, your purchase will total out to 2,700 Polychrome.
Individual Monochrome Purchases
If you spend real money in the game, you will get Monochrome, which can be utilized to buy specific items or turned into Polychrome.

Pity System
One of the best things about Zenless Zone Zero is that the pity system is visible. On each banner, there&rᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚsquo;s a little bar that f꧂ills up and tells you how many pulls you have left before you’re guaranteed an A-tier or S-tier item or character.
An A-Rank or higher Signal should be guaranteed after ten Searches, whereas an S-Rank Signal should be gained in 80-90 Searches. A “Signal&rd🍨ꦿquo; can either be a W-Engine or a character.
Battle Pass
The Zenless Zone Zero battle pass, also known as the New Erdu City Fund, can only be unlocked after you finish the Explosive Last Train mission from ꦗthe first chapter. After that’s done, you should have access to the basic version of the battle൩ pass.

As a free mobile game, Zenless Zone Zero is worth playing at least once to try out. ZZZ is often compared to Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail, but I feel like this may be an unjust comparison, as they aren't really the same.
ZZZ has a uni▨que story, new mechanics, a cozy world (which is not open-world🐻), and a cool exploration system. The cast of characters is a bit small, but I really like all the ones that are available.
I've been playing gacha games for a while, and some can truly be so terrible that it leaves you wondering how it's still online. Thankfully, Zenless Zone Zero still brings the Hoyoverse quality to us.
