And to those rebels that occupied Zhenwu Te🔴mple, only one person could possibly defeat the Ming Dynasty entirely. Too bad they're already dead. Of course, the power of Red Mercury can bring them back, corrupted, but enough to remove Ming once and for all. At least that's what they hope for. Wuchang has other ideas in mind.

Preparation For Zhang Xianzhong

A large corrupted structure in the Fierce Tiger's arena in wuchang: fallen feathers.

Before entering the Fierce Tiger arena, you'll want to boost your Paralysis and Lightning resistances. There will be plenty of physical attacks on display during this battle, but these are the mos𝔍t helpful to boost immediately because just about every attack comes with a d🌺egree of Lightning and Paralysis build-up with it.

Next, make sure you have Nian and Huang's questlines completed up to this point. Both can be summoned with the Bone Whistle 💙during either phase of this battle, and both of them a🔯re significantly more powerful than the typical ally you can summon during these fights. Nian specialises in melee attacks, while Huang has plenty of ranged magic.

In terms of what to bring yourself, any weapon works. Faster is better, but Fierce Tiger has enough downtime after certain attacks to land some powerful Axe attacks if that's a weapon you've already been using. At this point, you should also have access to a good variety of Tempering Needles, so make sure you have as many equipped as possible, especially those that boost the damage bonus from Tempering.

Zhang Xianzhong's Strengths And Weaknesses

The sankhara wuchang symbol appearing after defeating zhang xianzhong in wuchang fallen feathers.

Being such a terrifying figure, neither Fierce Tiger or its second phase, Zhang Xianzhong, have any special weaknesses. That said, outside of Lightning and Paralysis, they don't really have any massive resistances either. So you do have a fair ෴degree of freedom in terms of your b🔴uild.

That said, dodging will be the real driving force behind this battle. In the first phase against Fierce Tiger, not a single attack can be deflected, while in the second phase the only attacks that can be deflected are the few spear attacks, which aren't particularly worth being caught in lig💜htning for.

In terms of status effects, the typical applies. Blight can be useful to whittle down HP in the early stages of the fight. With Fierce Tiger and Zhang Xianzhong having different health bars, this can be used in both stages of the fight. After this, Burn will get you the most consistent results, dealing damage over time and increasing damage from all other sources while the effect is act༒ive.

Mind you, even though Burn is very helpful, it will take a fair while longer to apply to this boss than it does to most others. Getting the Impetus Reposit🐬ory node that increases the status build-up of Fire Spells will help a lot here.

As always, Alacrity can be a massive help here in keeping up your Skyborn Might, and paring this with Benedictions that increase your damage or defense while you have Skyborn Might can make it fight significantly more manageable.

A final thing to keep in mind. Unlike most other bosses, Fierce Tiger cannot be instantly staggered with a Charged Heavy from behind. That said, it does♋ still deal more damage and 🦄build up stagger faster.

Fierce Tiger - Zhang Xianzhong's Moveset

The Fierce Tiger is split into two phases, with its second featuring the resurrected Zhang Xianzhong. Both also feature entirely separate health bars, so you're in it for the long haul with this battle. H🔴ere are all the moves in both phases, and how best to counter them.

  • Phase One - Fierce Tiger

    Attack

    Description

    Counter

    Dash

The Fierce Tiger dashes towards you, dealing incredibly high damage ifꦬ it hits.

This attack is usually performed at a distance, so you should have plenty of time to dodge. Try to do so a small amount in advance, as the hitbox is quite wide⛦ on this attack.

    Tail Lightning Orbs

Fierce Tiger ಌwill dodge backwards after a charge, firing off an arc of lightning orbs. This can be performed three times in a row.

When you see FierceTiger charging, get some distance. If you are hit by all of the orbs at once, it will𒀰 kill you instantly. The farther you are from Fierce Tiger when the attack starts, th𝔍e longer they will perfom it in a row.

    Regular Swipes

When close to you, Fierce Tiger will perform some quick swipes, w꧃hich can potentially end in a tail sweep that moves them furth💧er away.

When these faster attacks come out, try to dodge away so you don't get caught 🐲in some of the follow up attacks. They don't tend to track you, so it should be easy enough to dodge away.

    Tracking Lightning Orb

Fierce Tiger will pull a lightning orb fr൲om their mouth that follows you. This deals light damage, though deals much🔜 more once it explodes.

ꦦLet the orb follow you for a while and then dodge away from it once it starts crackling. Constantly dodging it will just waste your stamina.

    Lightning Beam

While at a distance, Fierce Tiger will unleash a massive Lightning Beam fro💎m their mouth.

This attacks p꧃ulls off quite quickly, though can be easily dodged to the sides. It also lasts a while, giving you time to close in on Fierce Tiger for some attacks.

    Heavy Claw Slams

The Fierce Tiger will reel up, performing consecutive slams with their claws, before 𒀰doing a final slam with both claws at once. They may also do a backwards tail flip to move away.

These attacks are slower, even giving you time to get in a quick dash attack between slams. 🀅Try to stay close during these attacks to maximise your damage.

    Roar

Fierce Tiger will 🐭roar, whi🍌ch will cause you to flinch if you're too close or don't dodge it in time.

This attack can pull out quite quickly, though has quitꩲe a short ran﷽ge.

    Rampage

After a roar, Fierce Tiger will begin to rampage, performing a 💖quick series of slashes and slams before leaping away.

It's best to keep your distance during this attack as the attack happen so quickly that they can ✱be difficult to dodge consistently.

  • Phase Two - Zhang Xianzhong

    Attack

    Description

    Counter

    Electrifying Dash

Zhang stabs the spear ﷽into the ground and dashes in a straight line, electrifying the water he passes through. This remains for a few seconds.

Standing in this water causes light damage and builds up Paralysis, so simply avoid standi🥃ng it in.

    Lightning Beam

The same as in the first phase, th🧜ough can be shot out even faster this time.

Like before, just dodge to the sides. The lightning orb from the mouth move will no longer occur, so 🐬you can guarantee this is the move that will be performed at a distance.

    Lightning Air Walk (and slam)

Zhang will leap into the air and prance about, drop🧜ping lighting orbs from above t꧂hat spread slowly across the arena, before slamming into the ground at the end.

The lightninℱg orbs spread quite sl🌄owly, so keep locked on to Zhang so you don't lose track of him for when he slams back down.

    Multi-Tracking Orbs

Zhang will run a circuit around the arena, unleashing a seri💟es of tracking lightning orbs to follow you. They all explode in consecutive order, rather tha⭕n all at once.

Th🍌ese act the same as the orbs in the original, though last longer. Try to keep your distance from the bos while they are active♎, and only dodge once you see them crackling to conserve stamina.

Lightning Roar (with lighting bolts strikeing around)

A similar roar as to t♌he first phase, but now lightning strikes all around Zhang as well.

For this, either get close enough to avoid the lightning entirely, or far enougꦅh away to avoid ওthe roar and bolts.

    Spear Swipes

Zhang will strike with his spear quickly with a few swipes. This can be done before or a🅘ft🐼er Claw Swipes.

This attack canဣ be deflected, though it's best to just dodge it so you can get close to Zhang for more damage.

Heavy Lightning Spear Slam (with lighting that spread from the slam)

Zhang will stand still as he slams his spear into the ground. This initial attack deals high damage, and causes a massive lightning explosion around the area💮 of the attack as well.

This attack can hit quite a wide aౠrea, soဣ try to use its long animation ot get behind Zhangfor extra damage.

    Multi-Dash

Just like the dash attack from the first phase, though it can be performed💯 mul♓tiple times in quick succession now.

You can s🍬ee when this attack begins by Zhang pointing his spear forward. As 🐟before, dodge a little in advance.

    Claw Swipes

Just like the first phase, the Fierce Tiger performs a series of swipes with its claws. This 🌃can be followed up or preceded by Zhang's Spear Swipes.

Same as the firꦓst phase, dodge away from them or try to ge☂t behind him for extra damage.

In the second phase, quite a few of Fierce Tiger's moves are brought over to Zhang, though expanded or given a slightly different approach. That said, many of the same principles apply. A whole lot of do♊dging and well-timed Fire Spells with Alacrity.

How To Beat Fierce Tiger - Zhang Xianzhong

The Battle

When battling Fierce Tiger, endurance is the name of the game. They move around a lot, but will always try to close in on you. As such, try to stand your ground and let them come to you so you don't ❀have to waste stamina running to them. And despi𝐆te them being only the first phase, they ca still hold their own. Get used to dodging their attacks so you can conserve most of your Manna Vases for the second phase.

Nian and Huang can also be summoned in this fight, though they persist across both phases. That means it's better to try handle the first phase, Fierce Tiger, by yourself so that you have help in the more complex second phase against Zhang Xian✱zhong🐬.

Other than that, it comes down to a lot of dodging. The dash attack is also deceptively powerful, so make sure you're always above at least 60% HP, or else you're at risk of a single attack defeating you. Spells can be incredibly helpful here to keep your di💃stance, and you might want to consider pairing Spells with a One-Handed Sword since these give Spellpower boosts and gain Skyborn Might more easily with the Biding Time passive from the Impetus Repository.

The Rewards

After you finally put this tyrant to rest for the second time, you will be given a variety of rewards. The first of these is the Aurum Ancient Chisel, a major key item. The next is the Tortoise Ingot, which can be given to Tao Qing to unlock new items to purchase. Finally is the Echo of Zhang Xianzhong, a Spell that has you leap towards and enemy and perform a powerful Lightning Slam that🔯 triggers Paralysis build-up for both you and the 💙enemies hit.

From this point on, many earlier areas in Worship's Rise became inaccessible, so ensure you finish any exploration you nღeed🌜 before talking with the Old Storyteller to advance the plot.
