Benedictions are an important skill you'll need to master in Wuchang: F𓄧allen Feathers. Here's how to use them.

What most people tend to have a deeper understanding of is the much earlier Three Kingdom period, which was by all accounts over 1,000 years prior to the game's timeline. And it turns out, not🐬 everyone from that period was keen on leaving their legacy be just a legacy. So here is where to find and how to finally defeat the legendary Zhao Yun.

Preparation For Zhao Yun

Entering the tomb arena to battle zhao yun in wuchang fallen feathers.

How To Find Zhao Yun

Unlike most other bosses in the game, Zhao Yun is both entirely optional and easily missed. To battle him, you must first complete the entirety of the White-Robed Elder's questline, which ends in the Tomb in the Avian Dwelling after helping him defeat his Inner Demon. Talking to him here, he will tell you to return once you have discerned🅷 the truth. Vague, but it will make sense when it, well, makes sense.

To be more clear, you may return to the Tomb after you have entered the Bo Capital, and before you have beaten the final boss, Demon of Obsession. Just en♓ter the Tomb and the battle will begin instantly.

Because you do not talk to Zhao Yun prior to the battle, he will not appear as a quest in the Teleport menu. You mus💝t simply remember him telling you to return.

Before The Battle

Before you start fighting Zhao Yun, it's worth getting your defenses built up. Zhao Yun deals primarily physical damage, mainly Slash and Stab. On top of that, he can also deal some Fire damage with certain attacks, as well as cause Frostbite build-up. It's a good variety heౠre, so try to make a focused build here that can mitigate these attacks.

When it comes to the battle itself, Zhao Yun is fast, and while some offensive Spells can be useful, it's better to bring defensive ones, such as the Echo of the Bo Magus since he can defle💛ct or dodge many slowerಌ-ranged ones more easily.

If using the Echo of the Bo Magus Spell, be aware that you can no longer deflect attacks while it is active, so you must🎀 dodge if you wa🍃nt to avoid the shield getting damaged.

Finally, bring along a weapon with deflection if you have it. While you won't be deflecting ev꧟ery attack in this fight, it can be helpful during certain sections o🔥f the fight for more defensive reasons.

In terms of Pendants, take whatever best compliments your existing build. Maybe that will be enhancing blocks and counters, or boosting some of your defenses. The same applies for Benedictions, though the Disciplinary Force Benedictions can be very helpful for extra damage at this late moment in the game, 🃏as is the Impale Benediction bonus set.

Zhao Yun's Strengths And Weaknesses

Zhao Yun laying defeated beside Wuchang in Wuchang Fallen Feathers.

Let's talk about Zhao Yun's strengths first. He is very fast, and can cross the battlefield in an instant. On top of that, he can also deal Frostbite and Fire damage with some attacks, thoughܫ this will only ever be from those specific attacks, and he will not deal these damage types wi🃏th his regular attacks.

Zhao Yun also has the terrifying ability to deflect you with a move you may already have - Aerial Bulwark. Zhao Yun will at times hold hi🤪s spear in a defensive stance, negating any attack and quickly jumping away with a powerful attack. What makes this attack so fearsome is that he will sometimes fall into this position automatically after a deflection, punishing you for any counter-attacks.

In terms of weaknesses, he doesn't have many. Over 1,000 years to hone his skills is a lot. However, he does have a somewhat weak posture, allowing you to fill his stagger meter fairly quickly, and knock him down with Charged Heaไvies from weapons like the Longsword and Axe. To this end, it is worth keeping at least one ranged Spell on you so you can keep his stagger meter filled even when he♓'s at a distance from you.

Eternal Glory Zhao Yun's Moveset

Wuchang receiving the echo of zhao yun spell in wuchang: fallen feathers.

Like just about every other boss in the game, Zhao Yun has two phases, with the second acting as an expansion of the first. In fact, Zhao Yun does not lose a single move across phases. He 🀅just gains more. Here is every move he can perform and how to counter them.

  • Phase One

    Attack

    Description

    Counter

    Running Stab

Zhao Yun makes a long run, attempting to stab you with his spear. Usually followed up with Turnstไile Stri⛄kes or Stab and Slash Flurry

For this one, the best case sc🔯enario is to deflect it. He will 🍃not react to the first deflect, so also immediately the deflect the first attack of the follow-up. This will stagger him, giving you enough time to get in a hit or two.

    Aerial Bulwark

At times after attack strings or after being deflꩵected, Zhao Yun will prepare Aerial Bulwark. This functions identically to the Discipline Skill on the spear, deflecting any attack that hits while dealing damage and dodging backwards.

You can bait this attack to end quickly with a ranged attack, as timing a dodge or deflect is incredib✤ly hard. You can also try get to his sides or back, as the deflect will only trigger from the front. Otherwise, just keep your distance until the attack ends.

    Impaling Leap

Zhao Yun will leap into the air and attempt to impale you on descent, acting as a grab attack. If d꧋odged, will foll꧂ow up with Stab and Slash Flurry.

This attack cannot be deflected, so must be dodged. It is best to dodge either directly into the attack or directly backwards to keep Zhao Yun in range. Otherwise, he will zip right past you. ဣIf he stays in range, be prepared to dodge or deflect his next attacks.

    Whirlwind Spins

Zhao Yun will perform fast, wide-reachi🌞ng spins 🌠with the spear while advancing towards you.

This can be dodged🌜 through more easily, though you can also cancel t attack by deflecting. Just be wary of counter-attacking in case he prepares an Aerial Bulwark.

    Turnstile Strikes

Typically performed after a Running Stab, Zhao Yun quickly spins 🎐the spear in front of him for many rapid, short-range attac🌌ks that end in a slam.

These attacks can be deflected, though deflecting the slam at the end is best as he is unlikely to prepare an Aeri🌳al Bulwark after it, giving you time to attack.

    Stab And Slash Flurry

After dodging an Impaling Stab, Zhao Yun will quickly stab in front of himꩲself and then do a series of slashes with the Spear.

All of these attacks can be deflected, though he is almost guaranteed to prepa♛𒁏re Aerial Bulwark afterwards, so it may be worth dodging so you can get some hits in after the attack.

    Firefall Leap

Zhao Yun will leap into the air, crashing down and causing fire to rain around him. He typically follows up with൩ a Stab and Slash Flurry or Turnstile Strikes.

This atta🐼ck lands almost as soon as he leaps into the air, so be prepared to dodge. The fire itself is easy to dodge, though keep an eye on Zhao Yun as he will always perform♏ a follow-up attack.

    Icicle Cascade Leap

Like Firefall Leap, Zhao Yun leaps into the air and crashes down, this time sending ic🌠icles outwards in succession.

This attack cascades slowly. so it is best to stay close to Zhao Yun so you don't get hit by later icicles after he has already landed. He rests for longer after this attack, giving you time tꦦo get a few hits in.

    Spear Slam

Typically while standing still, Zhao Yun slams the spear right inඣ front of himself for high damage and to knock you𓂃 back.

The rꦫange on this attack is quite wide, so it is best to dodge right into it and attack the boss while he is recovering.

    Ground Uplift

Rarely, Zhao Yun will stab his spear into the 𝓡ground and then uplift the land beneath him.

Like the Spear Slam, just dodge into the attack and♍ get some hits in. Just be wary that the initial stab and the uplift are two separate hits.

  • Phase Two

    Attack

    Description

    Counter

    Sword Unveiling

As Zhao Yun enters his second phase, he will gloriously unveil his sheathed sword. This summons a massive gus🙈t that knocks you away and deals damage.

W🎉ith how constant and unpredictable the damage is from this, it's best to simply keep your distance until the at🍸tack ends.

    Spectral Double

Zhao Yun can 𒆙now summon Spectral Double after some of his attacks. This double will only ever perform Whirlwind Spins, hitting a wide area for good damage.

Typica𝓡lly, the Spectral Double is summoned after attacks where Zhao Yun is left vulnerable.

The benefit of this is that the double does not track you. It follows in a set position fꦕrom the moment it is spawned, m🅠eaning you can quickly get distance from it.

However, because it is ♊spectral, you also cannot deflect a🅠ny of its attacks.

    Wind Waves

Zhao Yun unleashes a flurry of Wind Waves from his sword, whet♍her you are🐭 up close or at a distance.

Zhao Yun tends to move very little to track you during this attack, so it helps to try get behind him and deal some damage, potentially even a Charged Heavy if 𒐪you can manageജ it.

    Sword Stab And Wind Repulse

One of his stronger moves, Zhao Yun will perform a quick stab with his sword before locking himself🍌 in place, unleashing a massive blast of wind all around him.

This attack has a massive ra𝔍nge and comes out very quickly, so after the stab, be ready to dodge almost immediately afterwards, no matter how clo💮se or far you are from Zhao Yun.

Almost all of Zhao Yun's attacks feature follow-ups, even when deflected, and he can easily punish you for trying to get hits in. 💝As such, you must be cautious when battling him, picking your o𒆙penings more carefully.

How To Beat Eternal Glory - Zhao Yun

The Battle

The most important part of battling Zhao Yun is managing your muscle memory. He is very hard to punish, typically readying an Aerial Bulwark right after being deflected, or following stabs ♊with sweeping attacks to catch you trying 🐓to get behind him.

As such, deflection should be used less as an offensive tool, but a defensive one. If it cancels a combo, use this as time to Tᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚemper your weapon, prepare a new shield with Echo of the Bo Magus, or heal up. If he is not staggered by the deflect, then you can follow up with an attack or two of your own.

Echo of the Bo Magus is essential to this battle. With it🅺, you can cut through most of Zhao Yun's attacks, letting you bypass many of his attacks that would otherwise knock you down. That said, because he attacks so quickly, he can break your shield very quickly, so make sure to still dodge as many attacks as possible ꧒while getting close to him.

Filling his stagger meter to open him up for an Obliterate attack is a great move here, so bring something like the Echo of Honglan for a projectile that can track him so the stagger meter 🐽doesn't empty while he's away froꦡm you.

When you enter the second phase, Zhao Yun becomes even more aggressive, using his Spectral Double as a means to punish you for getting to close. However, never stop trying to advance towards Zhao Yun. As long asyou avoid the initial hit from the double, it will continu♒e on its set path rather than trying to track you. Don't let it scare you away from Zhao Yun himself.

The Rewards

After finally beating Zhao Yun, you get a few different items. The first is the Shu Army Board, which can be given to Tao Qing to allow you to purchase Zhao Yun's spear. The second is the Echo of Zhao Yun, a Spell that lets you unleash a massive jade blade for damage all around you, and to your Inner Demon in particular. Finally, you get the Cyan Feather Chisel, which lets you unlock the final Tempering slot.

If you return to the Tomb after beating Zhao Yun, you can use the Worship gesture at the gravestone to acquire Zhao Yun's armor, the Loyalty set.
