Those looking for some kind of arena shooter in 2020 might need to keep an eye on Worms Rumble, the recently announced arena shooter from developer Team17. Set to be a 32-player online shooter with platforming elements and a pseudo-battle royale mode. It definitely sounds like something that would have released before the turn o♒f the century.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Team17 producer Danny Martin revealed that this new title would be coming to both PS4 and PS5 sometime later this year. In a massive departure for the series, Rumble will be the first Worms game to feature real-time combat. No longer will you be taking turns to trade blows with each♚ other.
The biggest surprise is that the "Last Worm Standing" mode isn't simply a deathmatch modifier. Some gimmicks from popular battle royale titles will be implemented to keep players on their toes...or whatever worms walk on. "Restricted zones will play a big part in the outcome of the battle," Martin explained. "Linger too long in one of them, and you’ll start losing health until you move into another. The r𒆙estricted zones won’t always start or finish in the same location, so you’ll need to keep an eye on the warnings when they appear and high tail it out of there to a safe location."
The other confirmed modes in Rumble will be a standard deathmatch and a team variant of Last Worm Standing. Martin goes into detail about how Rumble will mix things up from traditional shooters by including all of Worms' eccentric stylings. You can absolutely expeꦍct to see the Holy Hand Grenade.
If you're worried about servers being dead on the PS4 version once the PS5 launches, don't be. Team17 is working to specifically make Worms Rumble crossplay from the get-go. I wouldn't doubt ports to other platforms happen at some point in the future, but Rumble will only be available on Sony consoles when it releases later tꩵhis year.
