World of Warcraft’s Wrath of the Lich King expansion certainly has some great raids, and Eye of Eternity, though only a single-boss raid, is no exception. Between the disc-flying mages, the giant dragons, the mounted dragon combat, and finally, the incredible visuals, this raid is a blast to d♕o.

With that in mind, going into this raid blind will certainly end in death. On top of that, there are some things that need to be done prior to entering the raid, namely Attuning to it. So, let’s jump right into Eye of Eternity and the stunning boss fighꦚt against the aspect of magic himself, Malygos.

Location Of Eye Of Eternity

Eye of Eternity is located in Coldarra, the western island of Borean Tundra that is covered in snow, ice, and arcane energy. The entrance to the raid is within the central, large spire of Coldarra and is on the top platform (shown in the right image).💃 The two portals on the floo🌠rs below the entrance to the Eye of Eternity are for the dungeons, The Nexus, and The Oculus, so don’t mix them up.

Attunement To Eye Of Eternity

World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King Sapphiron in Naxxramas

Attunement to the Eye of Eternity is as simple as killing Sapphiron, the penultimate boss of Naxxramas, and picking up the Key to the Focusing Iris (10-man Sapphiron) or the Heroic Key to the Focusing Iris (25-man Sapphiron) from him, which are quest-starting items. Bear in mind that the Heroic Key to the Focusing Iris will unlock both the 10 and 25-man difficulties of Eye of Eternity, whereas the regular Key to the Focusing Iris will only unlock💙 the 10-man difficulty.

The drop chances for both the Key to the Focusing Iris and the Heroic Key to the Focusing Iris are not great. That, coupled with the fact that multiple people in your Naxxramas raid group(s) will want th❀em when they do drop, means you might be grinding them for a bit of time.

Only one person in your raid group nee💎ds the (Heroic) Key to the Focusing Iris for the entire party to access the raid.

Fighting Malygos

World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King Malygos in Eye of Eternity

Malygos, the aspect of magic, stands at the Eye of Eternity ready to unleash the full arcane might stored within it upon the mortal races of Azeroth. Though he is the only boss in (both difficulties of) Eye of Eternity, he is not a short one by any means. The fight against Malygos is a three-phase fight, each one distinctly different than the other. So, let’s dive right into it.

To start the encounter, click on the Focusing Iris at the center of the room🥀.

Phase One

Phase one of the Malygos encounter sees you fighting the great dragon on the platform toe to toe. As you would expect from a dragon, he has a fire-breathing attack (or in Malygos’ case, an arcane-breathing attack), so unless you're the tank, try to position yourself behind him. This is doubly important because he doesn’t have a tail-swipe mechanic.

Vortex

The Vortex mechanic is raid wide and tosses all players into the air, dealing continuous damage for 10 seconds. At the same, time, it constantly interrupts abilities with cast times, so casters and healer🐼s beware (you can still use instant-cast abilities during Vortex).

This is a rough mechanic for healers, so if anyone in the raid group can off-heal, or if your class has an immunity spell (yes, Paladins, you are b𒈔eing spoken to right now), Vortex would b๊e the time to help out your healers.

Power Spark

Power Spark is the most crucial mechanic of the first phase of the Malygos encounter. Throughout this portion of the fight, Power Sparks will spawn on the platform and make their way to Malygos. If they reach him, they’ll buff him, so it’s imperative that you kill the sparks before they do so. These ꦛadds don’t have much health, but they move pretty quickly, so make sure you’re keeping an eye out.

What really makes Power Sparks important is the electricity field each one leaves behind at the location it is killed. Standing in these will buff you (and everyone else standing there with you) with a 50 percent damage increase buff. And the best part is, these zones and the buff they provide can stack, so if you manage to stack a couple of power sparks together (Death Knights, your Death Grip is in🌊valuable here), you’re golden to be doing upwards of 100 percent bonus damage.

Phase Two

Phase two beings when Malygos reaches 50 percent health, and this is signaled by his flying up in the air and giving a speech. During this time he can still be damaged, so ranged DPS, let him have it. Anyway, after his speech he becomes unable to be targeted and two types of adds spawn: Nexus Lords and Scions of Eternity. While both these adds fly around on discs, the Nex⭕us Lords stay on the platform, allowing melee DPS to hit them.

At this time, the Nexus Lords should be killed as soon as possible so the melee DPS in your group can take their flying discs. This will allow them to fly up and♛ kill the Scions of Eternity hovering above your group, and once they die, they will drop their discs too, allowing more p🌠layers to mount up on them and fly around.

Deep Breath And Arcane Overload

Deep Breath and Arcane Overload are the two primary mechanics of the second phase of the Malygos encounter. In random places across the platform, Arcane Overload will spawn purple, arcane energy-looking bubbles. Standing within them reduces magic damage taken by 50 percent, so when Malygos casts Deep Breath, it is imperative that everyone stands in the protective zones of Arcane Overload to avoid being annihilated.

You and anyone else flying around on a Nexus Lord’s or Scion of Eternity’s disc will not take any damage from Malygos’ Deep Breath, regardless ♈of whether or not you’re protect🅷ed by Arcane Overload.

Arcane Overload zones will gradually shrink a♔s they absorb damage, so you will have to move to another one eventually.

Phase Three

Phase three begins when all the adds are dead, and this is signaled by Malygos shattering the platform. Instead of falling to your deaths, it becomes a vehicle fight, and you’re saved by red drakes of Alexstraza’s brood. All players will have the same five abilities, but most players should focus on DPSing Malyogs while leaving a few people in the raid to heal (there’s no tanking in this phase).

Aside from using your new dragon abilities, all you need to look out for are the Static Fields, which is easy enough to do if everyone is stacked and following a single person (usually the raid leader)꧟.

The red drakes do have defensive abilities, but usually, they won’t be needed if Static Fields are avoided and the desi𒈔gnated healers are doing their job. So, if you’re a designated DPS, just focus on using your damaging abilities and keeping your Engulf in Flames (2 button) up.

Eye Of Eternity Raid Rewards

Since there are two different raid difficulties, there are two different loot tables: one for 10-man and one for 25-man raids. As is usually the case with WotLK raids, the 25-man setting yields better loot. As such, the gear from 25-man Eye of Eternity drops gear at item level 226, whereas 10-man drops gear at item level 213.

That said, as you’ll see in the two loot tables below, 25-man doesn’t drop any weaponry; you’ll need to run 10-man for that. Also, each one drops a different mount. Thus, each difficulty l🧸evel has its own pros and cons, so running them both is a better option all-around than sticking to one (unless you’re targeting a specific item).
