The hunt for this battle pet began in December 2022 when it was noted that the NPC Zektar, located in the Spires of Arak was offering a new item called the Phoenix Ash Talisman — an item available for purchase with several phoenix-related currency items. One of these items will only be available during Cataclysm Timewalking, an event that occurs only a few times per year, making this battle pet𓂃 an extremely elusive beast.
How To Get The Phoenix Ash Talisman
To get the Phoenix Ash Talisman, you will first need to locate and harvest a series of ashes, and embers, then turn them in to the NPC Zektar (coordinates: 52.0, 52.5) in the Nest of the Ravenspeakers in the Spires of Arak, the southernmost zone in Draenor.
The items you will need are:
- 1 Glittering Phoenix Ember,
- 10 Sacred Phoenix Ash,
- 20 Inert Phoenix Ash.
Before you can speak to Zektar, you will need to make sure you have completed The High Ravenspeaker quest from Iktis of the Flock, an Arakkoa located 🀅in the Gnarlwood Pass🦩.

You will need to do all of your farming on one character, which must be level 60 or higher.
How To Get A Glittering Phoenix Ember
The Glittering Phoenix Ember is the only time-sensitive item you will need to acquire in order 🀅to obtain the Phoenix Wishwing battlꦅe pet.
It is a guaranteed drop for all players in the raid and drops from the Fire Hawk boss, Alysrazor, in the Firelands raid, atop Mount Hyjal.
The raid must be done on Normal difficulty or higher during a Cataclysm Timewalking event.
This requires you to use the Group Finder to form or join a group of up to thirty players. The party leader will then need to speak with Vormu, the Timewalking Master located at your faction's Earthshrine, to begin the raid.
Where To Find Sacred Phoenix Ash

Where To Find Inert Phoenix Ash
To get Inert Phoenix Ash, you will first need to head to the southern part of Kalimdor and locate the Un'goro Crater between Feralas and Silithus. Once you have made your way over to the crater, you will want to locate the volcano at the centre in Fire Plume Ridge.
Here, you will find hostile mobs of Scorching Elementals that have a relatively low chance to drop Inert Phoenix Ash. These mobs also share a spawn time with another mob Living Blaze, and the two look identical. You will want to clear the area of both mobs to make them spawn faster.
This step is arguably the most time-consuming, and will likely take several hours to complete due to the low drop chance and respawn time. If the area is particularly busy we recommend forming a group of five, ꦚso you can track ꦰdown more elementals at once and share the loot.
Hunters have the ability to track elementals on the Minimap and w♈ill have a decisive advantage ⛄when tracking down the elementals.
How To Complete The Tales Of The Phoenix Quest
Once you have obtained the Phoenix Ash Talisman, you will be able to speak with an NPC called Tarjin The Blind (coordinates: 16.1, 62.7) in the Waking Shores, on the moജuntain behind the Obsidian Citadel.
He will offer you a quest for a few more phoenix-related currency items that can be found in the D🌠ragon Isles. In exchange, you will receive the Phoenix Wishwing battle pet!
To complete this quest you will need to exchange:
- Phoenix Ash Talisman
- 15 Smoldering Phoenix Ash
- 20 Ash Feathers
Where To Get Smoldering Phoenix Ash
Smoldering Phoenix Ash is an item that can be found most readily in The Waking Shores. It does have a relatively low drop chance, so you will need to spend a bit of time hunting 🉐it down.
It drops from Lava Phoenixes, which can easily be found on the rocks in and around both the Obsidian Citadel and Scalecracker Keep.
These phoenixes are often found flying around, so the easiest way to lure them in is to interrupt their flightpath on your dragon, and kite them to a safe landing point where you can engage them.
How To Find Ash Feathers
While you're hunting down phoenixes for Smoldering Phoenix Ash, you'll want to look around the Obsidian Citadel or Scalecracker Keep for any shed feathers.
However, you will not be able to see these feathers unless you have used an Ash Feather Amulet. The Ash Feather Amulet will provide you a buff that lasts one hour, allowing you to see Ash Feathers in the Slagmire, and Burning Ascent, the two areas which surround the Obsidian Citadel, as well as Scalecracker Keep.
This is an item you will need to purchase for 100 gold from a Troll NPC named Griftah (coordinates: 25.6, 54.3) who can be found on the merchant level of the Obsidian Throne. Griftah can be a particularly difficult merchant to find as he is located behind a tent, unlike the rest of the merchants.
