Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap starts when you first arrive in the village as Lizard-Man. In this area, you will be on your own𝔉 with rubbish gear, only one heart in your health bar, and no idea what to do next.

One of the first things you should do is explore, slaying any enemy you encounter to start gaining some gold coins. With them, you will be able to purchase better gear from any shop in the game. There are three types of equipment in Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap: swords, shields, and armors. Below you will learn where to get each armor in the game, how much they cost, and what they do.

Ivory Armor

• Location: Comes with the Lizard-Man form
• In-Game Description: Basic armor, second-hand

After defeating the Meka Dragon, you will be stripped of your Legendary armor and transformed into the Lizard-Man. This new form comes with the Ivory Armor already in your inventory. It isn't a great option, and only adds a few defense points to your character.

Mithril Armor

• Location: Available in the village shop for 44 gold pieces
• In-Game Description: Reduces damage. Looks flamboyant

Luckily, you can upgrade from the Ivory Armor as soon as you start gaining some coins. To get the Mithril Armor, go to the village shop —🌼 the one next to the windmill &🦩mdash; and purchase it.

Shogun Lamellar

• Location: Available in the jungle shop for 500 gold
• In-Game Description: Reliable. Made in Japan.

Once you get the Mouse-Man form, you can access the jungle area and purchase this armor from the shop that's there.

To get to the jungle, go west of the village and use the Mouse-Man's special ability to stick to any checkered block you find. Keep walking left until you reach the jungle, then drop down to open the door and get inside the shop.

Crystal Armor

• Location: Available in the shop inside the windmill 3,210 gold
• In-Game Description: Crafted out of elegant Tangerine Quartz

If you have the coin, forget about purchasing the Shogun Lamellar Armor and go for 🐓the Crystal Armor instead.

You can find this armor in a shop inside the windmill, but it'll be only accessible for Mouse-Man. To get to this shop, go inside the windmill, go to the upper floor, stick to the wall on the right and then go up. On the next screen, reach the☂ door and open it to get inside the shop.

Goblin Mail

• Location: Available in the beach shop for 180 gold pieces
• In-Game Description: Cross-dress like a goblin. No questions asked

The Goblin Mail is a cheap armor you can grab early on in the game. All you have to do is head to the beach and walk to the right until you reach a hut, go inside, and then open the door with a little window. There, you will be able to buy the Goblin Mail Armor𒅌.

Samurai Armor

• Location: Available in a shop east of the village for 310 gold
• In-Game Description: Lacquered strips of leather. Shiny

You won't be able to get this armor unless you have unlocked the Piranha-Man form, because you'll need this form's special ability to reach the shop that sells the Samurai Armor.

To get the Samurai Armor, open the door below the village shop, drop down the well, go right, and then swim up the first opening you see. In this new screen, break the blocks to your right to gain access to the sword.

You will need to have the Thunder Ring in your inventory to be able to break brown block🍌s.

You can also access this area with Hawk-Man by flying over the wall to the right of the villaꦅge and continuing forward until you see t🎐he shop.

Dragon Mail

• Location: Available in the desert shop for 300 gold
• In-Game Description: Scaly and immune to lava
• Special Ability: Lava immunity

You won't need to worry about being hurt by lava when playing as the Lizard-Man, as this form is immune to it. However, using Lizard-Man isn't the only way to get this ability. Equipping the Dragon Mail armor allows you to deep dive into lava without harm.

To get this armor, go to the desert area and then walk right to reach the canyon. From there, keep heading right until you reach what looks like a small house, head inside, and then open the door with the little window to enter the shop.

Prince Armor

• Location: Available for 1,600 gold in the shop on the west side of the village
• In-Game Description: Captures hearts and thoughts
• Special Ability: Increases the probability of an enemy dropping a health-restoring heart as loot

You will need to have unlocked the Mouse-Man form or the Hawk-Man form to reach the shop where this armor is sold. To get there, go to the village and walk left until you hit a chequered block wall, stick to it u🧸sing Mouse-Man or fly over it using Hawk-Man.🧜 On the other side, you will find a door that leads to the shop.

Hades Armor

• Location: Available for 2,000 gold in a shop in the underground area
• In-Game Description: Ancient underworld design. For mortals only
• Special Ability: Revive you if you die and have no potions in your inventory

To get this armor, you will need to work with different forms, so you should have equipped the Tasmanian Sword to be able to transform at will.

Step one is to use Lion-Man or Mouse-Man to break the blocks on the left side of the windmill and drop down. From there, walk left until you reach four different wells you can drop down. Use the second one from the left and then keep going left.

You will be now in the underground area; keep moving left until you reach Daimyo Temple. Instead of going inside, change into Hawk-Man and fly above the entrance to reach another door, open it and then open the door with a small window to enter the shop.

Legendary Armor

• Location: drops from an enemy in the Old Castle
• In-Game Description: It's called Legendary for a reason

Legendary gear is one of the best you can get in this game, but you will only be able to obtain it in the endgame as you will need Hawk-Man's special ability to reach the area where the gear is.

To obtain the Legendary armor, fly over the wall east of the village and keep going until you reach the Old Castle. Go inside the castle and follow the same path you used at the start of the game. However, after dropping on the left side of the hole, walk right instead of left and slay the blue cyclops to get a key. Use the key on the door to your right and kill all the enemies in the area. T🧸he last one will drop the Lꦗegendary Armor.
