Updated on December 7, 2022 by Quinton O'Connor: Carrying on from 'A Deadly Plot', 'An Eye for an Eye' gives us a taste for the darkly political that was a cornerstone of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Keep the good times rolling with this updated guide.
Talking To Roche And Starting The Quest
To begin the quest, you need to speak with Vernon Roche. He will be slightly northeast of Oxenfurt at the Temerian Partisan Hideout.
When you find him, ask about his problem. He explains that Ves has taken some troops to Mulbrydale to attack some Nilfgaardian soldiers. This is a problem because Roche didn't give her p🐼ermission to leave. She disobeyed his order because she wanted to help the common folk that the Nilfgaardians were targeting.
He needs your help to track her down. Agree to lend a hand and then set off for the Hanged Man's Tree in the middle of Velen.
How To Save Ves
Shortly after speaking with Roche at the Hanged Man's Tree, Ves and her team will attack the Nilfgaardians at Mulbrydale. From the tree, head a little to the southwest to find where the skirmish is taking place.
At this point, a health bar for Ves will appear on the screen. If it completely depletes, she will die, and the quest will fail permanently. As a result, you'll be unable to acquire Roche's assistance during the Battle Of Kaer Morhen later in the game.
To avoid that from happening, you want to seek out Ves and protect her. Thankfully, the opposition isn't too tough. But if you leave her to her own devices, she will die quickly. So, focus on killing the enemies closest to her until they're all wiped out.
Deciding The Nilfgaardian's Fate
After the battle is over, Roche verbally reprimands Ves for being careless and disobeying orders. During the heated conversation, you all notice a Nilfgaard soldier who's clinging to life. Ves wants to finish him off while Roche intends to leave him be. But their opinions aren't the ones that matter as it's really up to you. Your options are as follows:
- "Kill him, Roche. I don't want any trouble." - If you select this option, Geralt points out that he sometimes works with Nilfgaard, and a witness could create problems for him. As a favor to you, Roche guts the guy.
- "Hard To Argue With That." - With this choice, Geralt sides with Roche, who tells the survivor to leave, much to Ves' dismay.
This seems like it should be an important choice, but it isn't. There aren't any noticeable consequences for killing the Nilfgaardian or leaving him ali🍸ve.
Once the matter is settled, Roche thanks you for your help, and the quest comes to a close.
