There are obvious challenges to any plans. A good chunk of Wicked's popularity as a movie comes from its popularity as a musical, which would not extend to an original seque𝓡l. It also doesn't stem from the books, which do have sequels, but rely on characters not present in the movie. The books also, obviously, have no songs, meaning even if they were adapted, they would likely take a lot more work than m𓂃oving the from the theatre stage to the soundstage.
The th🗹ird movie could also be completely original, but that would also mean a lot more work, plus the difficulty of appealing to the hardcore fandom that has very specific (read: gay) ideas for the fates of the heroines, as well as entertaining a more general audience less aware of the thousands of headcanons the biggest fans will not want to see broken. Whatever happens, we probably won't hear until after Wicked: For Good arrives on our screens in November, but hopefully th𓆉at's not the last of Wicked for good.
