Look, maybe I'm old-fashioned, but when I say that I'm a fan of something, I mean that I like it. Strangely, for 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Spider-Man fans, being a fan seems to consist mostly of yelling about the hero's suits. Sometimes there is also yelling about the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:size and quantity of puddles. But 💯Spider-Man fans always seem to return to yelling about his suits.

The ever-raging debate 𒆙kicked off again recently with the reveal of Marvel Rivals, an upcoming 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Overwatch-like multiplayer game from NetEase. Peter Parker is in the game, which again, you’d think his fans would be happy about. Instead, they’re upset about his suit having too much blue, weird shoes, and a not-prominent-enough spider emblem on the back. Look, I’m not saying I’m in love with the design. I just have lost the capacity to be sympathetic to complaints like this, because they happen every time a new game featuring Spider-Man comes out.

Overwatch 2 has its problems, but Marvel Rivals is ♕likely to make theꦓ same missteps

Back when 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Marvel’s Spider-Man launched in 2018, it didn’t include Spidey’s suit from the Sam Raimi movies. Fans began to loudly demand it be included as DLC. Eventually, the fervor got so loud that Insomniac f🧔elt the need to respond. The developer put the suit in the game, and what should have been a fun surprise for fans, likely in the works before the complaints, instead became ꧃a response to backlash.

More recently, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Miles’ Evolved suit in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 got a lot of hate. It has a bold design — with Adidas sneakers and no top to the mask, allowing Miles’ locs to peek out — so it’s easy to understand disliking its break from tradition. But Spider-Man 2 had so many suits that you could just ignore any you weren’t into. Instead, fans complained about the robust suit selection, with some feeling that Insomniac had included too many MCU-inspired suits. Spidey fans also hated the webhead’s suits in Marvel’s Avengers and Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and I’ll be real with you, those look completely nor🌼mal and unremarkable to me. At this point, it seems like this subset of ꦫfans just wants to complain.

Maybe I feel this way because I was exposed to multiple different takes on Spider-Man when I was growing up. I watched a ton of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and Raimi's Spider-Man is one of the first PG-13 movies I remember seeing in theaters. I rented the Spider-Man N64 game, and owned Spider-Man 2: The Sinister Six for Game Boy. In comics, Spidey looked different in every issue I picked up, as I swapped between multiple subseries and saw how different artists drew the character. I also owned a ton of Batman action figures that all had different costumes, so I got accustomed early on to the idea that there was no one correct take on a hero's suit.

It seems especially silly to get this worked up about suits in a modern video game like Marvel Rivals where you will almost certainly be able to unlock or purchase new suits. Sure, having to purchase a costume you like more might be annoying, but that obviously isn't the underlying issue here, given that fans were just as angry about Miles' Evolved suit, one of dozens of suits in Spider-Man 2 unlocked through gameplay instead of spending.

But fans just can’t be normal about Spider-Man. It’s so constant that it’s hard to see the Spider-Man fandom as anything but toxic and entitled. Spider-Man fans all have their own preferences 𓆏about the hero’s look, and that’s normal. I, personally, don’t love the more mechanical aesthetic that makes Spidey look more like Iron Man Jr. than a hero in his own right. But there’s a difference between having a preference and being toxic anytime a developer diverges slightly from your favorite desig🌱n.
