The card boom during the pandemic was unprecedented, but so was ev♚erything else about the pandemic. As the curve flattened and people got back into the rhythm of their normal ✱lives (if you can call anything about the post-pandemic world ‘normal’) the more cautious analysts warned us of an inevitable market contraction.
Four years later, them numbers is still going up. In ꩲthe l🔥ast few years we’ve seen modern chase cards hit record price highs and continue to spike beyond all reason. If the Pokemon bubble is going to burst, it’s not bursting any time soon.

Pokemon's Van Gogh Pikachu And Moonbreon Cards Have Doubled In Value This Year
If you own ei🐲ther of these cards, congratulations. They're worth a lot more now than they were this time last year.
While shiny Charizards and fat Pikachus will always get a lot of attention, the poster child of this new era of unprecedented Pokemon card valuations is, of course, Moonbreon. The Alternate Art Secret Umbreon VMAX from Evolving Skies, which depicts a kaiju-sized Umbreon reaching for the moon, has been on an upward trajectory over the past year and shows no signs of stopping. It’s currently sitting at , m꧂aking it the most valuable modern card by a wide margin.
Now there’s a new Moonbreon on the horizon, coming in January’s Prismatic Evolutions set. Let's lo🧸ok at where Umbreon VMAX is at to see if we can figure out where Umbreon ex is going to go.
What Makes Moonbreon So Special?
The thing is, no one really knows why. Don’t get me wrong, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Umbreon is a very special littleꦕ pocket monster, and Moonbreon is a very rare card. But there are a lot of fan-favorite Pokemon on a lot of rare cards, and none of them have ever taken off the🤡 way Moonbreon did. It started out as the most sought-after card in its Eeveelution-themed set, but what’s so stran♐ge is how it’s just kept going up and up and up.
We’ve seen some similar price spikes for 🌳cards from sets that recently went out of print, like Paldean Fates and Paldea Evolved’s . Moonbreon’s ascension is part of a trend, but we’ve never seen a modern card shoot out this high this fast.
Most Pokemon collectors seem to agree that the reason Moonbreon keeps going up is because it keeps going up. Maybe it’s a consequence of the crypto era (and considering how many of those dorks found Pokemon during the pandemic, it’s worth considering) but it doesn’t seem like the 🍒market is ever going to find a reasonable ceiling for this card. If you bought a Moonbreon at any point in the last three year♏s, your investment paid off big time. Who’s to say that won’t continue to be true forever? That’s the mentality that has taken Bitcoin to nearly $100,000. Pumping Moonbreon has made a lot of people a lot of money too.
Here Comes Moonbreon 2
January’s Prismatic Evolutions is very much a sequel to 2021’s Evolving Skies, so꧃ of course it’s jam-packed with chaseable Umbreons. We know at♐ least a few of them based on the Japanese version of the set, Terastal Festival. Eevee and each of its Eeveelutions is getting a crystallized tera-type ex card, and of course, there’s a new Special Illustration Rare Umbreon ex that’s already been dubbed Moonbreon 2.
The card is gorgeous and incredibly rare, so it has all the same qualities that made the original Umbreon the It ‘mon of its era. That doesn’t necessarily mean it's destined to reach the same heights though. As we’ve seen with Shiny Charizard, there are diminishing returns when it comes 💃to sequels, and the original Umbreon will always be the OG. To stretch the metaphor, there are thousands of cryptocurrencies, but only one Bitcoin.
The other factor is that Moonbreon 2 isn’t the only mega-rare Umbreon chase card in the set. There’s a Master Ball reverse ho꧑lo, which looks like a regular rare but with a holographic Master B🐭all logo, also in this set. In Japan, Master Ball Umbreon is actually more expensive than Moonbreon 2 - though neither is anywhere close to Moonbreon. There’s a chance that in a few years they could be, but there’s also a chance the two are cannibalizing each other.
There’s also a chance that Moonbreon 2 will finally make the price of Moonbreon stable. With a cheaper (and arguably better) Moonbreon out there, demand for the original might finally sl♋ow down. But then again, maybe Moonbreon 2 makes Moonbreon go even higher! They sure would look nice sitting in a display case together, after all.
Nobody knows right now, which is part of the fun of collecting. I’m just excited to see my favorite Pokemon getting so much attention, even if thaꦆt means it’s way, way outside of my price range.
