This article contai💧ns spoil🦩ers for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.

Summary

  • Saber Interactive argued about including too much 40k lore while developing Space Marine 2.
  • In the end, they felt their inclusions added necessary depth to the game.
  • The inclusion of the planet Demerium was particularly contentious.

While developing 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2, Saber Interactive used to have internal conflicts about what to include in the game because som🍷e team members feared they would alienate more casual players if they packed in a lot of dense 40k lore.

This fear isn't unfounded as, judging by the game's runaway success, there are plenty of pla🍌yers who played Space Marine 2 that don't have a great interest in the 40k setting. After all, the genre of 'killing hordes of enemies with friends' is a popular one regardless of the setting.

In 𓆏an interview with , creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick and game director Dmitriy Grigorenko recounted some of their ba🎐ttles over various aspects of the game. A particularly contentious topic was the inclusion of Demerium, the setting for the game's final level Dawn's Descent where you need to go and liberate an Adeptus Mechanicus facility on the planet's surface.

As it turns out during the level, Demerium is actually a Necron tomb world.🎃 In other words, one of many planets where an ancient alien species lies underground in stasis, and as you can imagine, they've been bothered by the Adeptus Mechanicus. This revelation is just one of the many ways that Saber showed off some of the lore of 40k. Its inclusion in the game was a matter of debate for the developers, though.

"It would be fair to say that Dmitry and I had to fight quite a lot for that to be in there," Hollis-Leick says. "There was a concern raised by one group at one point that we were putting too much🀅 in the game. It was almost becoming a kind of 40k fancy dress party in their mind."

Hollis-Leick goes on to say that that level in particular shows off the scale of the 40k universe without delving too much into it. There's a presence beneath the ground that❀'s been there for millions of years before humans even existed. "So I'm really glad that Dmitry pushed for that, because I think it adds extra dimension to it. Bu🌼t it wasn't easy to get it," he finishes.

Warhammer 40,000 is one of the most expansive and explored fictional settings ever; there are over 400 novels alone and that's only one medium. It was always going to be a balancing act for Saber to figure out what to include, what to focus on and what to eꦛxclude.

The studio's hard work seems to have paid off as Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:most po🐎pular Warhammer game on Steam ever.
