I’m very into virtual reality. I still love it even though it’s constantly going through a state of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:eternal undeath. I’m being genuine when I say that, as a sad child, the idea of being able to enter a world where I had a different body was the dream. And still is! You knoཧw in sci-fi movies when 💛someone is wasting away because they’re addicted to some sort of tech that just feeds pleasure signals into their brains? I’d be that guy tomorrow if I could.

That's why I bought the Meta Quest 3 the moment it was announced. Sure, I may already have a Meta Quest 2 that still works great and a PS VR2 that works even better. But if you dangled a computer attached to goggles over my head, I’d jump for them all day long. Then again, I don’t have a family, a mortgage, or a car, so it’s not like my money was going somewhere useful.

The Meta Quest 3 reignites the magic of virtual reality, but it isn't much more t🌺han a fancier Quest 2 at the moment.

So after a night and morning using the Meta Quest 3, I can say with certainty that it’s the best headset I’ve got no reason to own. Once again, a company has released a headset with zero idea what to do with it and even less of a real concept on why anyone would want it. And once again, that company released that headset with the vague promise that eventually it’ll get good games. I want VR to succeed so much and VR companies are screwing it up. Meta has released a great headset that has zero substantial reason to exist other than 'it’s new'.

The Meta Quest 2 may be showing its age, but it still works great as a PC virtual reality headset. The PlayStation VR2 may not have a lot of games, but those that it does have are gorgeous. They’re b❀oth comfortable headsets with a few minor problems. The Meta Quest 2’s passthrough feature is essentially a reality-distorting vomit machine, and it will forget your pre-set boundaries every few days just to **** with you. The PS VR2 lacks backward compatibility and has a cord attached to a system that’s designed to tip over in a breeze.

The good news is that the Meta Quest 3 is better than all of them. It’s more comfortable to put on and take off. It’s easier to wear with glasses. Its visuals are far cleare🌞r than ever befꦜore. And, passthrough is finally in color and slightly less nausea-inducing. You can actually see the room rather than vague gray shapes that look like security camera footage from a horror film. It ain’t super clear, and Apple’s Vision Pro will likely do it better, but it’s an improvement!

The bad news is that the Meta Quest 3 has no reason to exist yet and anything good designed for it won’t come out for months (if ever). But I’ll tell you this: I downloaded some old apps to see how they ran and I was blown away… by nothing. I mean, I guess things load faster? They don’t look different. They don’t play differently. It’s certainly nice that they’re compatible, though, considering how much Sony shit the bed on that. To be fair to Sony, the tech behind their first headset is very different from the tech behind the second, so ports weren&rsq🌸uo;t exactly easy. But it still sucks all the ass to buy games in VR on a console, own a VR headset from the console’s developer, and not be able to play their VR games.

And did I mention the Meta Quest 3’s controllers are smaller, more comfortable, and easier to store than the Meta Quest 2? No? That’s because there’s nothing interesting to use them on yet. They’re amazing controllers! Love ‘em! I hope they’re in my grip for hours and hours. But there’s still the fact that this is a $500-$650 device that you’ll probably need to drop another $200 for a carrying case and a better headstrap. All to, I dunno, try Beat Saber? I’ve played Beat Saber on maybe six different headsets at this point. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:We need a new game. Or at the very🔯 least, they could add s💞ome Weird Al songs and help the world heal.

Do the virtual reality divisions of companies actually want people to want these things? I’d assume the answer would be 'yes', but this is another launch of a product that has nothing made for it. One or two games have upgrades, but if you’re spending $650 for better graphics in Red Matter 2, I can’t help you. Red Matter 2 is actually a fantastic game. But as of now, that’s the only one I’m finding that seems to actually use the Meta Quest 3’s power. I can’t imagine there are many more past that.

Of course, Meta has announced tons of games coming to the Meta Quest 3 eventually. Just like Sony has announced that a lot of games are coming to the PlayStation VR 2 eventually. Do you remember when Meta announced Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for the Quest 2? That was one of their big tentpole announcements and we still don’t k🗹now if it even exists. Meanwhile, Sony can’t even be bothered to port its best VR games like Astro Bot Rescue Mission. You probably haven’t heard of Astro Bot Rescue Mission and that’s a shame. It’s one of the best platformers I’ve ever played and maybe the closest I’ve seen a non-Nintendo game get to hit that Super Mario vibe. It was PSVR exclusive and stꦯays that way. Woo. Hoo.

These companies realize that there has to be a reason to own these headsets, right? I love Tetris Effect and Super Hot VR, but maybe it’s time we got some new virtual reality experiences on the table? I’m being a bit rude here - new virtual reality games come out every day. Not that either company seems to put money behind promoting them. Hidden treasures stay 🍃hidden and we’re stuck playing the same four or five VR games we’ve decided that we play forever. Cultivate your game library! Make recommendations beyond offering bundles of the same three fitness games over and over and over.

There seems to be an expectation that because VR tech is cool, people must want it. And if they must want it, there’s no reason to sell them on it. And if there’s no reason to sell them on it, there’s no reason to 𓆏do more than the bare minimum. I bought the PS VR2 on the first day, as well as some of the few launch titles available. Since then I’ve bought&he🦂llip; maybe one game for it? For an expensive headset I was excited about. That’s not good numbers. And I’m the easiest mark to get to buy your game.

I’m sure that Apple, with its endless money supply, is probably putting more might behind the Vision Pro than these companies have.😼 But I’m still not sure they won’t fall into the same trap. For decades, virtual reality has been pitched as a better, immersive way to work and play. That’s also Apple’s pitch. But we really have yet to see that pan out. Taking meetings in the Metaverse sounds awful and not everyone is as keen as me to play the same games again, but now in a🧸 more fun 3D. If these things are ever going to succeed, they need to be launched with games. They need to be launched with apps. And for the love of god, they have to be promoted behind a press release saying, “This exists! Buy it!”

Otherwise those companies will be stu🍰ck with an audience of one idiot: Me. And trust me when🔯 I say you do not want this albatross around your neck.
