The little sibling to Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, the Mana s🌄eries has plenty of its own games for you to sink hundreds of hours into.

However, each character's default class actually holds an extra secret - it can be turned into a Custom Classꦜ, le♒tting you functionally make a class that fits whatever build you have in mind rather than bending the existing ones to fit. Read on to find out how to make one for yourself.

How Do You Unlock Custom Classes?

While the game never implies to you how to unlock Custom Classes, it's a relatively straightforward process though one that will require you to finish the game first.

To unlock Custom Classes, you need to fully max out any one element's Elemental Plot. Once this is done, you are free to return to your original class and apply the weapons and vessels of any completed plot to it.

For example, if you completed the Rune Knight Class for Val, you could then wield a Greatsword in his Guard Class as well as equip any of the abilit𝔉ies from that class, while also applying the Wind Elemental Vessel.

However, you cannot acquire the final Elemental Plot Expansion tonics until the postgame in Chapter Ten, at which point you can puꦡrchase them from the Grizzly Excha⛦nge.

How To Make Custom Classes

In-game UI showing variations of how to make a custom class for Val in Visions of Mana.

Once the function is unlocked, the process of creating your own Custom Class is relatively simple. To give you a quick overview, here are the aspects you can determine as part of your Custom Class:

  • Weapon Type
  • Elemental Vessel
  • Class Strike
  • Abilities

None of these are mutually exclusive either. If Val maxes out both the Aegis and Rune Knight plots, he could still wield his default Shortsword, equip Rune Knight Class abilities, and use the Moon Elemental Vessel. None of the restrictions that existed in the Elemental Classes ex🌟ist in your Custom Classes.

The same applies to Class Strikes. If Val maxes out the Edelfrei and Ninja Master Classes, he could use either the Wood, Earth, or Fire Class Strikes if he has the Shortsword equipped, regardless of any Elemental Vessels. This means you can get multiple elemental covera🔴ge in just a single class.

You will likely gain enough Elemental Points in a single playthrough to fully upgrade three classes, letting you make a hybrid of any three classes you would li🌳ke.

When it comes to picking abilities, you can choose any ten from the classes you've maxed out. Since most classes only have four or five abilities, this means you could easily combine two classes entir💦ely, or ad♐d a few from three or more classes to make a more diverse hybrid.

Examples Of Custom Classes

To give you an idea of where to start on your own Custom Classes, here are some builds we used in the late-game that hybridized three classes together into one.

Val Custom Class

A custom class set up for Val in Visions of Mana.

For Val, we combined aspects of the Rune Knight, Edelfrei, and Berserker Classes. This is how we laid out the class:

Weapon

Shortsword

Elemental Vessel

Sylphid Boomerang

Abilities

Elemental Blade +

Ripple Rune

Warlord's Tutelage

Acuity +

En Garde

Dominating Darkness

Frenzy

Savin Strike

Soul Parry

Furious Bellow

Ability Seeds

Blade And Shield Sigil +

Blade And Shield Sigil

Beastly Force

Class Strike Damage +

Life Sigil +

Shield And Mirror Sigil +

Stamina Sigil +

Special Attack +

This made Val the ideal tank, increasing his defense as he gets lower on HP while also annulling status effects if he's low enough on health. Meanwhile, he remains an elemental powerhouse, growing the CS gauge even more than usual and being able to ignorཧe enemy resistances entirely with Class Strikes.

Careena Custom Class

A custom class set up for Careena in Visions of Mana.

For Careena, we combined aspects of the Dancer, Starlancer, and Maverick Classes. Here's a quick look at her layout.

Weapon

Spear

Elemental Vessel

Shade Sight

Abilities

Shaman's Song

Meteor +

Nether Gate

Muse's Benediction

Shaman's Dance +

Mistral Prayer

Still Waters

Starry Way

Supernova

Hermetic

Ability Seeds

Blade and Scepter Sigil +

Lucid Barrier

Artificer

Dark rain

Strength Sigil +

Scepter and Mirror Sigil +

Triumphant

Strength Sigil

Careena works great as a hybrid between magic and physical damage, as well as being an excellent support unit. This build combines all of that into one. She becomes incredibly self-sufficient, healing on hit and constantly recovering MP. Since she and her allies immediately recover from any status effects and stat decreases, she also keeps the party constantly fighting.

Morley Custom Class

A custom class set up for Morley in Visions of Mana.

For Morley, we joined parts from the Nomad, Nightblade, and Sovereign Classes. This is a snapshot of that build.

Weapon

Knives

Elemental Vessel

Luna Globe

Abilities

Retribution

Feint +

Deprivation

Incandescence

Noblesse Oblige

Decoy

Chivalry +

Swindler

Entrap

Cane-sational

Ability Seeds

Critical Damage +

Critical Rate Boost +

Luck Sigil +

Magical Dismantle

Strafe +

Blade and Scepter Sigil

Meelpa's Teaching

Critical Damage

While Nightblade is already a pretty broken class for Morley, this one is even stronger. It combines the crit bonuses from both Nomad and Nightblade so that Morley and the party are getting critical hits on every strike. Pair this with some of the more utility-focused abilities from Sovereign, Morley is weakening enemies with every strike he lands.

Palamena Custom Class

A custom class set up for Palamena in Visions of Mana.

For Palamena, we made a hybrid of the Rune Seer, Grand Diviner, and Archmage Classes. This is a look at how we built her custom c🌌lass out.

Weapon

Flail

Elemental Vessel

Lumina Lantern

Abilities

Ephemeral Encore

Powder Prison

Quick Cast

Shield Charm

Fluid Flourish

Shimmering Shroud

Elementary

Mystic Mastery

Esoterica

Splendor

Ability Seeds

Intellect Sigil

Wound Magic

Intellect Sigil +

Healing Light

Consecutive Casting: All

Scepter and Mirror Sigil +

Magic Sigil +

Brilliance +

If Morley is the physical powerhouse of the party, then Palamena is the magical equivalent. This Custom Class makes it so that when she's casting she has more defence and faster casting speeds while making all of her attacks ridiculously powerful. Paired with the fact that she is constantly regaining MP, you can cast devastating magic t🐬o your heart's content.
