During the 11 years Hermitcraft SMP has been active in the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Minecraft community, it’s become known for producing family-friendly contenꦅt full of epic b♌uilds, incredible redstone projects, and a large dose of shenanigans. Now it’s home to a fully playable trading card game, made by

This game within a 🗹game, Hermitcraft TC❀G, is created entirely from maps, painstakingly crafted in the middle of a random ocean. There are both common and rare cards for all 26 active Hermits as well as item, effect, and enchanting book cards. In total, it equates to over 110 unique maps. As the TCG transitions to a physical edition, thanks to Creo Cards, we caught up with VintageBeef to chat about this incredible achievement.

VintageBeef first started seriously playing around with maps back in Hermitcraft Season 7, when he recreated famous album covers and sold them to the other Hermits. “I did like a Guns N' Roses one, I think I did an AC DC, I might have done a Led Zeppelin, Notorious B.I.G., I think that was six or seven total,” he tells me. “I feel like I was just tapping into the realm of map possibilities at that time, but they took such a long time to make that I really didn't think too much more of it.”

As Hermitcraft entered Season 8 thoughts of maps were pushed to one side, since the season was always intended to beꦛ short and maps are incredibly time intensive. However, a couple of events occurred around this time that helped form the idea of building a TCG in Season 9.

“Just before season 9, I was on my Patreon server and somebody named HoJop was handing out bookཧs, like written books, but they had sprite art, and it got me thinkin🌠g about the maps again.” he explains. “I had also started playing Pokemon TCG online just for fun. So I started thinking, how can I combine the two?”

It was a long process to turn the idea into reality. Building a TCG isn’t easy, and doing so in Minecraft🅷 adds an extra complication since every card h𝓡as to be designed, and then translated into blocks.

“T▨hree months maybe before the season started I had already started making all the art for the cards and then preparing myself to build,” he explains. At this point, the project began to involve some community members. was commissioned to make the logo, and Hoffin produced renders of each Hermit’s most recognisable skin, which VintageBeef then converted into maps using MapcraftArt, and adjusted as he went to fit his desired block palette.

The project was started back in March 2022, and the , took place around four months later, with limited cards. There then followed a lengthy period of refinements, more test matches, and of course more cards. The Hermit cards, in particular, were heavily focused on during VintageBeef’s videos, since each Hermit was involved in their creation. “What I did was they would roll their stats. Sometimes I would change those stats depending on what I wanted the card to do anyway, but for the most part, the stats stayed as they were rolled, and the move names they chose [from viewer suggestions]” Beef explains. ”The moves themselves, like what they do, that was all me initially. Now that I'm doing the expansion stuff, I'm actually asking for input on what the Hermits want to see their moves do.”

When he first began, VintageBeef drastically underestimated just how many cards he would actually need, beginning with less than a dozen and steadily expanding. “I kept making more and making more. So it took longer, the project overall, than I anticipated it would take. But in terms of each individual card, I would say that was a nice surprise in that it didn't take as long as I expected.”

The game was , complete wi♕th an arena to play in and a TCG shop. “I thought maybe eight or nine of them would be really into it.” he confesses. However, at the time of writing the first TCG tournament is about to come to a close, and almost everyone currently around on the server has played at least one game.

“I think it's made us come together more” says Beef. “The first couple days there was a match happening and there were six or seven hermits just standing around watching, that's amazing to see. It's far exceeded what I expected it to do. It's interesting to see because it's not just a luck-based game. There's a little luck involved, but you have to use your cards wisely… You just kind of want to see what your friends are doing in situations that you might be in.”

After the tournament ends the cards will also be tweaked a little, altering overpowered cards and fixing accidental loopholes that different players (you know who they are) have been exploiting. “I'd say 90 percent of them will do the same thing, but the language on them will be different so that people know exactly what they do and there are no questions about it.”

Creo Cards Hermitcraft TCG Physical Edition

It’s not just in Minecraft that the game has taken off, with VintageBeef revealing that the physical edition came to life because “people kept messaging and leaving comments saying you should totally do this.” After some research, Creo Cards came into the equation and were the perfect fit, being familiar with both TCGs and He൲rmitcraft. Again, the project is extending an arm to the community, reaching out to fan artists. “I just kept✃ a note whenever I saw Hermitcraft fan art on who the artist was that made it and I kind of wanted specific people because I just really loved their art style," Beef tells me. "So when this became a reality, I reached out to them, and they were all super excited and super happy to work with the project.”

The Hermits have also been heavily involved, and a cut of the profits for the physical TCG will go to each Hermit featured on the cards, with the late TFC’s cut going to his family. As for the future of the Hermitcraft TCG? Well, it doesn’t look to be slowing d🍸own anytime soon. xBCrafted has just unveiled a 2v2 arena, and Cubfan135 has not only created a huge TCG Pyramid, but has also crafted his very own card, making him a kind of ‘gym leader’ under the guise of the Pharaoh. All with VintageBeef’s blessing of course.

“I've encouraged everybody on the server to build their own arenas and make their own cards. I think it'd be fantastic. I've encouraged people to even hold their own little matches where they incorporate specific rules or put in rules that make you think about the game in a little different way. Anything the Hermits want to do within the Hermitcraft TCG realm is fine by me.”

You can until 14 May 2023.
