Salerno Academy is the first dungeon in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth that is exclusive to Hard mode, and it is a doozy - there are some devilish puzzles to solve, but some very nice rewards to🍸 reap to compensate for that fact.
This dilapidated place of erudition seems almost abandoned, but for the undead monsters that roam the corridors. Despite this, it's quite a serene and beautiful place, overgrown with nature that seems set on reclaiming the building. Let us guide you through these eerie halls and toward success, treasure, and victory over the dungeon's nasty boss.
Salerno Academy Overview
As a Hard mode-exclusive dungeon, Salerno Academy doesn't hold back when it comes to puzzles. There will be a great amount of backtracking involved in this dungeon, and a timed puzzle to boot, so you'll want to deplete the dungeon of monsters before attempting to solve its mysteries.
Enemy |
HP |
Weakness |
Experience |
Notes |
Figment |
650 |
None |
224 |
These enemies are incredibly resistant to magic. They can use Fire Lance, which deals a ton of dam⛎age, so be careful and stay healed up. |
Mantrap Plant |
1,800 |
Fire, Dark |
371 |
These enemies guard a lot and can deal damꦚage to your entire party with Rhizome Spear. They hit hard, so make them your main pri🌠ority. |
Pongo Robustus |
2,300 |
Dark |
280 |
These enemies are very bulky but don't pose too much of a threat. They're mostly distractions from the true threats of the swamp - the Mantrap Plants and the Figments. |
Vermin |
530 |
None |
455 |
Make sure you use characters who can reliably hit flying enemies to start combos against Vermin. When they're hit, they fall to the ground, and are easily taken down. Alternatively, a well-placed spell will usually one-shot them in the back row. |
Shadow Servant makes for a great spell to use in this dungeon thanks to the presence of the Mantrap Plants and the Pongos - you can get them from Nethov Swamp, which you should also have unlocked in this chapter. Alternatively, Fire Lance will likely one-shot the Mantrap Plants, and they're the most threatening enemies.
Clearing The Academy Out
From the academy's entrance, move to the right. Slice the vines with your sword to get rid of them, and then enter the room behind them on the right. Inside, you'll find an enemy and a Memory Stone - as always, save your game. You can ignore this enemy, but from now on, it will be a very good idea to defeat every enemy you come across, as it'll make an annoying puzzle later on a little less annoying.
Leave the side room and then move two screens forward. Enter the room to the left and defeat the plant monster inside the pool of water in here. Leave the room and move a little to the right - examine the corpse here and decide to use the perfume. Valkyrie will now be perfumed at all times.
Head one screen to the rear, one screen to the right, and then head forward again. You'll find a screen with two enemies and a chest - defeat the enemies and open the chest to get Slanting Rain, a skill for archers.
Enter the room to the right and examine the large glass vat inside. Take the acid when prompted. You'll use this with the perfume later on. Leave the room and take the exit to the rear nearby - thanks to the Blue Perfume you have, you can walk right through the blue flowers - head all the way to the right and open the chest there to get the Icicle Edge spell. Head back, outside the acid room.
Take the nearby exit to the front and defeat the enemies on this screen. The exit to the right leads to a room filled with Figments and a chest containing an Eye of Heaven. Once you have that, head left until you hit the red flowers that you cannot move past at the moment, and head to the front. Kill the plant here. Now, you're ready to solve the dungeon's puzzle.
Solving The Flower Perfume Puzzle
Your goal in this dungeon is to reach the second half of the dungeon, which is behind both a blue flower wall and a yellow flower wall. Unfortunately, the flower walls regrow as soon as you leave the screen they're on, so it's not normally possible to get rid of the blue flower wall and then backtrack to grab the Yellow Perfume for the second wall. This is why we have the acid.
Time to do some backtracking - all the way to the corpse with the perfume. It's three screens to the rear, one screen to the left, and then one screen to the front. Examine the corpse to get the perfume and then follow these directions to the blue flower wall:
- One screen to the rear.
- One screen to the right.
- One screen to the front.
- Take the rightmost exit to the rear.
You should be near the blue flower wall. Walk into it to make it wither, and then use the interact button on top of where it used to be to use the acid. As soon as you use the acid a timer will begin and you have a limited amount of time to cover yourself in Yellow Perfume and get back to this screen.
There is a very specific route you must use. From the blue flower wall, after you have used the acid:
- One screen to the rear.
- Take the leftmost exit to the rear.
- One screen to the left.
- One screen to the front.
- Enter the room to the left and get into the water. Valkyrie now has Red Perfume.
- Exit the room.
- One screen to the rear.
- One screen to the right.
- Two screens to the front.
- Enter the room to the left through the red flower wall. Valkyrie will automatically get the Yellow Perfume.
- Leave the room by taking the exit to the front.
- Take the rightmost exit to the rear, through the yellow flower wall.
- Three more screens to the rear.
If you followed these instructions correctly and swiftly, you should now be confronted with a yellow flower wall whilst being scented with Yellow Perfume. Move through the wall and ಌcelebrate y🅠our success.
Bypassing The Fountain
Now that you've entered the second half of the dungeon, head to the room to the left. Do not take exits to the front from now on unless directed to - they will take you to the fi☂rst half of the dungeon again, and the exits will lock behind you.
Defeat the two enemies in this room and open the chest to get an Element Scepter, but beware of the explosion trap. Leave the room and head one screen to the rear. Enter the room here to find another trapped chest containing a Flame Jewel (which is useful in the postgame optional dungeon) and another pool that will give you the Red Perfume scent.
Leave the room and move to the left - instead of continuing on, which would have you running underneath a fountain and ruining your perfume, climb up the large vine. Run across the roof and drop down on the other side, which will allow you to move through the red flower wall with your perfume intact.
Save your game here and prepare for the boss, which is just inside the room ahead. Save before heading in - you may want to savescum a rather precious item drop from this dungeon's boss.
How To Beat The Harpy
With a lot of health and incredibly powerful attacks, especially🎃 when it gets desperate, the Harpy is a boss worthy of 🐼the Hard mode exclusivity.
Enemy |
HP |
Weakness |
Experience |
Harpy |
12,000 |
Fire, Poison |
7,000 |
The Harpy will open the battle by casting Reflect Sorcery on itself, which will make opening combos with magic useless - it cannot reflect spells if it's been struck to the ground though, so just save your magic for the middle of a combo instead of the start.
Equipping Valkyrie with a bow would be a good idea here, as her moveset is very useful for large aerial enemies - but she'll still work alright with a sword.
Good combo openers for the Harpy are any archer, Arngrim with the first hit of his combo, and Lawfer's second or third hits. The Harpy's weakness to fire makes Fire Lance a fantastic spell to use - it should shred a massive chunk of its HP if you're able to get it off.
If you have the patience, it may be worth trying this fight over and over again until you manage to make Harpy drop a Bracelet of Zoe. This is a very useful piece of equipment that increases a character's DME gain upon level-up by 300 points! If the fight ends without getting a chest, just reload from the save point just outside.
Salerno Academy Artifacts
The artifacts in this dungeon are l♓ocated at the top o⛄f a tree behind the Harpy fight.
Holy Grail |
Can be transmutated into a Bracelet of Zoe, but it's better to just farm the Harpy for one - at the start of every chapter, you'll get a Holy Drops if you have the Holy Grail in your inventory. |
Faim Fenn |
A decent sword - it's weak, but is an early way to access all three hits of a combo without a chance of breaking. |
Tiara of the Holy Empress |
Headgear that protects against dark damage. |
