This is no simple task - the elves lack the tools to repair the gem themselves, and so it is up to you, in grand RPG tradition, to do the legwork for them. With our help, you'll be collecting items and collecting treasures in no time.
Forest Of Spirits Overview
This dungeon is available to all difficulties, so you shouldn't be expecting the most difficult, torturous puzzles. In addition, all but one of the enemies found here are rather simple to defeat.

With so many enemies weak to fire, it would be a fantastic boon to have the Infernas greatsword equipped, which will instantly kill any enemy it strikes if it's weak to fire. The Infernas is acquired from the Citadel of Flame, which is only available on Hard mode. If you are not playing on Hard mode, just use fire spells to beat most of the enemies here quickly.
Finding The Elf Village
As soon as you enter, you'll spot an obscured chest on top of a branch. Open it to obtain an Eye of Heaven, but beware of the arrow trap - you don't have enough room to jump over it, so just move to the right as soon as you open the chest to fall down and avoid it.
From the entrance screen, head to the left. When you get the chance, head to the front. On this screen, there are a few obscured ledges in the background. Leap up to find a chest containing a Timer Ring, and further up, another chest containing a Dampen Magic spell book.
Continue on to the left and talk to the Elf you find there. Move to the front, and then all the way to the left until you reach a screen with falling leaves. There are two chests on this screen, a Heal spell book on the right, and a Sylphan Robe in the tree near the entrance. Return to the elf, and then move past them to the left until you reach a small room with another elf, talk to them - this is the Polar Fountain.
Move one screen back to the right, and then to the rear. Head all the way left until the screen becomes misty and you start a cutscene with a third elf. The elf will become your guide, and take you to the elf village. Move to the left again to learn that you need to go on a scavenger hunt to repair the Accursed Flame Gem. There are four items you need to acquire, and they're all in the forest.
- Polar Drops from a forest fountain to the south.
- Silver Thread from a Great Spider in the northeast.
- The Golden Candlestick, stolen by an ape deep in the forest.
- The Charm Feather, a feather from a Cockatrice nest in the northwest.
How To Get The Polar Drops
Leave the village and then return to the Polar Fountain (one screen to the right, one screen to the south, and then one screen to the left). Walk into the pond to get some Polar Drops and a bunch of Event EXP.
If the Polar Drops are not there, simply leave and return. The pond alterna✅tes between dry and full every time you enter.
How To Get The Charm Feather
Now, return to the right and then to the rear, and then take the next rear exit, which is on your right underneath a large root. Take the next exit to the rear that you'll find on the left, and then head all the way to the left to find a chest containing a Lucerne Hammer.
On this screen, take the exit to the rear and head left to meet another elf. Talk to them and they'll warn you of the Cockatrice nest to the south. Take the path to the front just next to them and save the game here. Climb up the trees on this screen to find two chests containing a Sap Power spell book and a Golden Egg.
One screen to the right, you'll be faced with the Cockatrice.

The cockatrice will get the first strike, so hope that it doesn't use it to turn your characters to stone. To this end, Stone Checks are cheaply Divined at 🌳the save point and will protect ♒you.
The cockatrice will spend most turns trying to turn your characters to stone with its breath attack. It's not a hard fight, especially if you're using a warrior with Infernas - one hit with thaꦑt sword will instantly kill the fire-weak bird.
When you win the battle, you'll get the Charm Feather.
How To Get The Golden Candlestick
From the cockatrice's nest, head back to the save point and then to the rear again. Head back past the elf and to the front again, but then continue on to the right. Take the exit to the front on this screen, and then move all the way to the right until you drop off a cliff and meet another elf.
The elf warns you of the ape, which is found on this very screen. Use crystals to jump up the branches, and you'll find the ape hiding at the top of the screen. Approach it to start the fight.

A rare ice-weak enemy in this dungeon, an Icicle Sword will make short work of them. Alternatively, just beat it down with your usual strategies - it's tough but has no tricks up its sleeves.
How To Get The Silver Thread
From the screen with the ape, head to the right and then two screens to the rear. You should be on a screen with a very bright, sunny background. Head one more screen to the left and climb the trees to find a chest containing a Wassail-Rapier.
This screen has lots of Mandragora encounters on it. As such, you'll want to be very careful to start battles with a pre-emptive attack. Mandragoras are very dangerous.
Head further to the left to find an elf who tells you about the Great Spider's nest. Take the path to the front near them, and then one more screen to the right to find the spider.

As you can tell by its name, you can expect to be dealing with poison in this fight. It's also pretty good at inflicting the faint status, so be on the lookout for that, too.
If you're able to exploit its weakness to holy damage, the battle will go that much quicker.
All in all, it's not a tough fight. Auto Item with Banish set up is a good idea here.
With that done, you have all the items you need to repair the Accursed Flame Gem.
How To Repair The Accursed Flame Gem
From the spider's nest. head one screen to the left, and then one screen to the rear, back to the elf. From here, you need to go to the left until you can take a frontal exit - move to the front three times in a row and then head all the way to the left to re-enter the elf village.
Talk to the elf here and you'll get the Accursed Flame Gem from the artifact chest. It doesn't have any uses, so your choice here doesn't really matter.
There's another section to this dungeon, but you cannot access it until you leave and return. To leave, simply head all the way to the right, taking no detours.
Return To The Forest Of Spirits
Once you're back in the forest, head directly to the left until you reach the misty screen again. This time, you won't be led to the village automatically.
This misty forest acts quite like the forests that turn you around in The Legend of Zelda - you'll need to follow specific directions.
From the screen that transitions from clear to misty, take the following directions:
- One screen to the left.
- One screen to the front.
- One screen to the left.
- One screen to the front.
- One screen to the left.
On this screen you'll fight another Cockatrice - the fight is functionally identical to the 𝓡one from earlier.
The Forest Of Spirits Artifacts
After beating the Cockatrice, you have two artifacts to pick up.
