Most bosses in V Rising can be located fairly easily, either by trial and error or by using your Blood Altar structure. However, The Winged Horror requires the mandatory defeat of another boss in order to access its habitat. One of the three Soul Shard bosses and Dracula's former pet, this devilish monster is a deadly foe, and it will assail you with the raw power of the elements.
This guide will reveal where to find The Winged Horror, the best strategy f💃or beating it in battle, anꦕd what you can receive from its demise.
The Winged Horror's Location
The Winged Horror can be found at the top of the Dread Peak, at the Eastern edge of Farbane Woods. A high mountain peak, this location is completely impossible to access unless you have defeated Nightmarshal Styx the Sunderer. You will require his Bat Form 🎐Vampire Power in order to fly up to the summit, 🌸and there are currently no methods to work around this.
Fortunately, the mountain has no other enemies, and because you will be flying there, it will be a relatively safe journey. The Farbane Woods Waygate in the Northeast region is your closest teleport location, and make sure to arrive in the nighttime, both for your Bat Form and because the pl🎃ateꦓau has very little cover from sunlight.
Due to The Winged Horror being a Soul Shard boss, it will be marked on the map with a white pillar, if you have built the Eye of Twilight structure. This will always be the case on a PvE server, but can vary on a PvP one, as the current owner of the Soul Shard will be marked instea𒁏d.
Thanks to The Winged Horror's static location, using your Blood Altar to find it will not be mandatory.
Battle Strategy
One of the most challenging bosses in the game, The Winged Horror 🐬is still the easiest Soul Shard boss. None of its moves are super difficult to deal with, but it may take some time to become used to how it fights. It is a combat level 78 boss, and will primarily use elemental ranged attacks to destroy you. This creature is highly mobile, so skill shot abilities are not recommended. Fighting in melee is also a risky choice, as it leaves you very little time to dodge its attacks.
The Winged Horror will primarily focus on summoning Chaos Orbs around the arena. These will burn you and apply a five-minute Fire debuff. Likewise, its Chaos Charge will move quickly towards you and apply the same debuff. The DoT will prev✱ent you from healing or tr♐ansforming into any form, so it can be quite nasty if left unattended.
The bosses' Frost attacks will work in a similar fashion, applying a five-minute Chill debuff onto you, using the Crystal Lance and Frost Vortex spells. The Vortex can be particularly nasty, and you will want to save your Travel Ability to help deal with its pull effect. The Lances can be dealt with by simply being far enough away from the boss at all times. Yo🐼u should be playing a ranged 𒆙playstyle for this fight, so this should be happening naturally.
The key to dealing with these debuffs is the Power Surge ability. It is able to cleanse you of all negative effects and thanks to its low cooldown, it completely nullifies any long-lasting afflictions during the fight. The shield and power buff granted are als🀅o extremely helpful in aiding other players, and this boss is generally much easier when tackled with a group.
The Winged Horror's Ultimate ability is to fly up into the air, before breathing numerous Chaos Pillars down onto the ground in a scattered pattern. Do your best to run and dodge these, but you will always be able to cleanse the Chaos Burn it leaves, so don't worry too much if you get hit. The boss is untargetable in the air, so just focus on survival. It will perform this multiple times throughout the fight, so remain patient, as the Horror has a very high health pool, and whittling it down from far away is the key to victory.
Your set-up for The Winged Horror will be Chaos Volley and Power Surge, with the Heart Strike Ultimate for some extra healing. The boss will move around a lot, so focus on landing your Chaos Volley, and save Power Surge to remove any debuff it applies. A Sanguine Crossbow and Bloodmoon armour are the best choices for gear, and some Scholar Blood is nice for the spell leech.
The Winged Horror's Rewards
Even discounting the Soul Shard of the Winged Horror drop, this boss will still provide you with a reward. The Frost Vortex Vampire Power is a Frost Ultimate ability that damages enemies in a large area before pulling them to the center. The AoE continues for an additional six seconds, dealing massive damage and inflicting Chill. This is hands down the best AoE Ultimate in the game, as the damage is unrivaled. It may take a bit of a set up to group your enemies, but the reward will be well worth it. It can also be especially strong against players, if you make sure to use it after they have used their Travel Ability, they should not be able to escape, an🍬d will take heavy damage.
The Soul Shard of the Winged Horror is a special item that can be a challenge to transport. Nerfing you with increased damage taken and reduced movement speed, you will have to manually run this back to your base, as you are banned from using abilities or teleports. Once home, you are free to place this down as a Soul Shard Pylon, granting you and your allies a strong blessing for two hours once clicked. This particular Soul Shard will give 50 Silver and Fire Resistance, as well as increased spell power, and spell critical strike rate. Very useful for engaging in either PvP or PvE, this buff is a must-have for you𝕴r endgame endeavors.
