This city is held by Mordon, a Warrior who wields a colossal hammer, and who is backed up by Hoplites, who prove to be a tricky e🎃nemy to overcome without the right tools.

Battle Overview

This battle is laid out quite simply: the walled city is protected on all sides by Hoplites surrounded by Mantlets. These are environmental buff items that improve a unit's physickal defence and last three figh🗹ts and have the same benefits as a bridge garrison.

The tricky part of this fight is overcoming the mantlet's defences and dealing with the heavily armoured Hoplite - to doꦗ this, you'll need a Wizard.

For this reason, you'll need to have journeyed north and completed The Self-Effacing Sorcerer side quest and recruited either Auch or a generic Wizard from Fort Veille, which is liberated in that quest. Once y𒐪ou have a Wizard, you can create a formation specifically to deal with th🦋is stage, such as this:

This formation should be enough to deal with both the mantled Hoplite unit guarding the entrance to the city and Mordon's Hoplite to boot.

You'll also want another formation that can deal with the generic Axebearer units that begin near the city and finish off the other formations once the Hopliღtes are down. Sending the main unit to deal with every enemy in t꧟he stage is risky in terms of Stamina.

Good characters to include in this backup unit would be a Knight like Clive (Assault Lance is perfect) or a Gryphon Knight, who can attack the en🍸tire back row at once and is very evasive.

Gryphon Knights can be recruited from Fort Mainteneaut.

How To Beat The Battle Of Barbatimo

This is quite a short battle. To begin, send out your Magic Unit and a backup unit that can deal with the Axebearers. Once the Axebearers are down, send the Magic Unit at the Hoplite. Once the Hoplite in the front row is dead, you can send your backup unit in to finish off the other enemies and save on the M✨agic Unit's Stamina.

As soon as you enter the city, Mordon will order the other Hoplite units guarding the other entrances to converge on your location. It's possible to finish Mordon off before either of them reaches you, but the timing ca🥂n be tricky.

The strategy here is pretty much the same as the one you used to enter the city: all three formations here are guarded by front-row Hoplites. Use your Magic Unit to destroy those with ease, and then send in your backup unit with strong fiℱghters to finish off whoever is left behind.

It's best to leave Hodrick behind for this fi🍬ght - as you'll learn when you approach Mordon, Warriors are super-effective against Hoplites (like Hodrick) and will destroy them in a very short amount of🐷 time.

After beating Mordon, you'll immediately acquire a Warrior's Medallion. In addition, you'll complete the quest, which rewards you with some Honors, a Lapiz Lazuli, and the Iron Helm Mercenaries Heraldry in addition to the usual Renown. A cutscene after the battle will let you choose whether or not you recruit Mordon.

Should You Recruit Mordon?

If you recruit Mordon, you'll get a handy Warrior earlier than any other unique Warrior in the game. He also has the ability to repair bridges, which allows you to access new areas.

Passing up on Mordon will net you 30 Honors, though this isn't that handy - Honors are very easy to farm by taking on random encounters and grinding at sigils. Even though Mordon isn't special (there is another character who can repair bridges for you), it's worth recruiting him nevertheless.
