Undertale and Deltarune are titles that aren't as simple as they first appear. At their surface, they are heart-warming, humourous experiences laced with jokes and filled with a delightful cast of characters that manage to stay with you long after the game has finished.
However, these games also manage to be incredibly unsettling at times. The fact that Undertale can be played in a so-called "genocide run" is a gruesome prospect on its own, but even in neutral and pacifist playthroughs, there are plenty of moments where you see that these worlds are nওot necessaril𝔍y as pleasant as they may seem.

Exploring Alphys' laboratory reveals exactly why she kept it hidden, as the results of her messing with Determination are revealed. It's a moment that quickly goes from horror to heartbreak once you realize that the monsters just want to go home, but they can't.
9 Lancer's Life Being Threatened By His Own Father

Throughout Deltarune chapter 1, Kris, Susie and Ralsei routinely have to deal with self-proclaimed "bad guy" Lancer, but as time goes on, it's revealed that Lancer is not actually evil. He's been taught to be this way by King, his father, who has a deep hatred for Lighteners and rules as a tyrant.
This cruelty is fully demonstrated towards the end when King, furious at Lancer having befriended the Lighteners, forces the group to surrender by using his own son as a hos𒀰tage, a move which even disturbs Susie.
8 Finding The Items From The Previous Huma🏅ns (And Their Coffins)
As you adventure through Undertale, you can find various items that boost your stats, such as a frying pan and a tutu. Seemingly random items at first, it's later revealed during Flowey's boss fight that these items belonged to the six previous humans who also fell down and died in the monster world. Also, whilst exploring Asgore's castle, you can find a room that contains seven coffins, one for each human (with yours currently empty). It's a clever piece of storytelling that becomes darker once you finally notice it.
7 🌜 Talk꧂ing With Sans In The Resort

During a chat with him in the MTT Resort, Sans reveals he's been helping you because he made a promise to Toriel (not knowing it was her he was speaking to), who'd asked him to watch over humans that left the ruins. It's a pretty unsettling realization which gets even creepier when Sans looks at the human with a pupil-less glare.

Killing Toriel is a pretty dark act to begin with, but this is a particularly twisted way of doing it. Fighting Toriel is inevitable because she needs you to prove that you can survive in the monster world, but it's possible to keep sparing her until she decides to give in and let you go peacefully.
However, it's possible to spare Toriel right until the last second and then kill her, and the look of horror on her face is chilling. She even says, "you really are no different than them!"
5 "Fighting&♛quot; Monster Kid
In Undertale you come across Monster Kid, an armless monster who excitedly follows Undyne around, wanting to be as strong as her one day but with no desire to actually harm anyone. This naivety causes them to befriend the human irrespective of the route the player is taking, which is a very dangerous thing to do in a genocide playthrough. Monster Kid does eventually realize that they've been hanging around with a serial killer, and during that moment, you know exactly how terrified Monster Kid must be feeling.
4 The Music Changing In𒁃 A Genocide Playthrough
Obviously, a genocide playthrough of Under🥀tale is d💖esigned to be unsettling, and the game drives this home by making it as uncomfortable as possible. One way Undertale does this is by changing an area's music to be slowed down and distorted. However, if you kill everyone in an area, the music is replaced entirely with a low drone (which is actually Flowey's theme slowed down by 2000%). This first occurs in the ruins, and the sudden change is easily one of the most unnerving experiences in the whole game.
3 Flowey's Death In A Genocide Playthrough

Flowey's lack of a soul means that he cannot feel any emotional attachment to anyone, either positively or negatively, which is why he kills without any guilt. Things only become interesting for him when the fallen human arrives. In a genocide playthrough, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Flowey tri൩es to team up with the human so they can lay waste to the whole world, but he soon realizes the human wants to kill him too. It's one of the few times Flowey shows fear, and given how brutally he dies, he has every reason to be scared.

Spamton from Deltarune chapter 2 is possibly the weirdest character to exist so far in a Toby Fox game, even compared to Jevil in chapter 1. If you choose to help him out with a personal matter in a neutral or pacifist playthrough, you end up facing him in a relatively tricky boss fight, as is often the case with secret bosses in RPGs. Afterward, Susie notices that Kris is very unsettled from the whole ordeal, which poses the possibility that maybe Kris doesn't want to be doing all this.
1 Noelle Uses Snowgrave 💦
The recently discovered 'Snowgrave' route in Deltarune chapter 2 may be the darkest scenario that currently exists in the Undertale series, even compared to the genocide run. Normally, attacking enemies in Deltarune doesn't kill them, they just run away. However, Noelle's ice magic does kill enemies, and she can be manipulated into casting the Snowgrave spell on Berdly, her best friend. Even after everyone returns to the real world, Berdly doesn't wake up, and sooner or later, Noelle is going to realize that she hadn't been dreaming.
