The UK government is starting to take action against 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:scalper groups reselling PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. A petition on the UK parliament website has received over 15,000 signatures, resulting in a response from the government’s Department for Business, Enerꦇgy and Industrial Strategy.
The petition, which requests a ban on the resale of goods at overblown prices, states, “I believe it to be an unfair and unjust practice that well-funded groups/individuals can deplete the stock of a single item and make it unaffordable/unavailable to the꧒ average consumer.”
In its response, the UK government has confirmed that it has introduced leg♌islation to end the use of automated bot software by resellers to purchase high-value items in bulk. “Using automated software to buy more tickets than allowed by the retailer is prohibited, with unlimite♎d fines for breaches,” the response states.
“The Government is committed to maintaining one of the world’s strongest consumer protection regimes and ensuring consumers’ interests are safeguarded in our economy. We are discussing the issue of bulk purchasing of high demand items like graphics cards and games consoles through automated bots with trade associations such as Ukie, the trade association for the video games indus💎try,” it adds.
Sony and Microsoft, which were already having trouble meeting demand for next-gen consoles, have also been impacted by scalpers reselling consoles at a mark-up. Last month, a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:bot software firm claimed its user�ꩵ�s had procured over 2,000 console orders for resale.
“For now, our top tip is to stay patient, to refuse to buy from scalpers and to buy from a trusted retailer,” a government spokesperson said. “We understand how frustrating it is to wait for a new device, but holding out to buy a console at th𝕴e recommended price from a retailer as stock shortages end will discourage scalpers, save you money and protect your consumer rights.”
Earlier this month, UK Minister of State for Digital and Culture Caroline Dinenage, said officials were considering a proposal that would 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:illegalize console scalping. The bill, titled the Gaming Hardware (Automated Purchase and Resale) Bill, which was introduced by Douglas Chapman MP of the Scottish National Party, would ban console scalping the same way ticket scalping was ba꧑nned in the UK a few years ago, thereby preventing resellers from hawking PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles for “vast profits.”
