Here at TheGamer, we’ve covered a lot of negative news about Ubisoft over the years, most recently its EULA clause that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:requires𓆉 players to destr🍒oy their games once they’re no longer supported by the publisher, alongside suspended prison sentences for its staff members wh⛄o were found guil▨ty of psychological and sexual harassment. Both of these are more than enough grounds to boycott the publisher’s upcoming releases, and we’ve seen growing se🌃ntiment in the video game community to do just that.

It's just a damn shame that the next game being released under their umbrella is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Anno 117: Pax Romana.

The History Of Anno

Ubisoft Mainz has helmed 🦂the Anno series since 2019’s Anno 1800, although the series itself began way back in 1998 with Anno 1602, developed by Max Design. This studio sadly folded in 2004, but Anno continued development under Related Designs (2006’s Anno 1702), with Ubisoft later purchasing a 30 percent stake in the company and the rights of Anno along with it to form Ubisoft Blue Byte. The remnants of Related Designs were rebranded as Ubisoft Mainz in August 2019. It’s now one of three studios under the Blue Byte umbrella, all based in Germany.

This means, in an incredibly roundabout way, that Ubisoft Mainz has been producing the Anno titles for pretty much two decades. In that time, we’ve seen several distinct entries, ranging from the futuristic Anno 2070 to ꦐthe well-received Anno 1800. There’s a level of consistency and quality across each game which is seriously impressive to behold. This team lives and breathes Anno, and by all accounts has been awarded a level of indep𝔍endence from Ubisoft just to do their thing.

Sadly, the older Anno games are typically poorlꦉy rated on Steam. Not because the games are bad, but because the old and defunct Ubisoft servers render them practically unplayable. Classic.

There’s something quite comforting about Anno. For those not in the know, it’s a strategy simulation game where you develop multiple towns across separate islands. You establish trade networks, build up the lives of your citizens, and interact with NPCs either peacefully or with🌺 the thundering fire of cannons. The fundamental gameplay formula has remained unchanged for many, many years.

Ubisoft Mainz Is A Well-Respected Studio

Despite the name, Ubisoft Mainz has been regarded as a great studio for many years and is well-known for looking after their employees. Just a brief look at their website and employee beneﷺfits shows a robust support network for developers, including language classes, childcare costs, and a sabbatical program.

I’ve also played Anno 117: Pax Romana, the next game in the series scheduled to release in November. It's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:an Anno game through-and-through, the sort of consistency that I’ve come to expect from Blue Byte over the years. They’r🦋e not afraid to try new things - Pax Romana will feature intricate talent trees and a religion mechanic - but ultimately you sort of know what to expect. W🔥hat you see is what you get.

In a video game landscape where most larger studios seem to be chasing some sort of live-service cash-cow fantasy (Concord, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:FBC: Firebreak, and even the rumored 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Battlefield 6 battle royale mode), in steps Anno once again, clearly developed with focus by a passionate team of developers. Don’t get me wrong, there will likely be enough DLC to cover the face of the moon, but I managed to get close to 1,000 hours out of the Anno 1800 base game. That’s m🍨ore than enough.

Despite all my best instincts to avoid Ubisoft like the plague, I’m going to buy Anno 117: Pax Romana. It’s a shame to tar a huge and respected studio like Ubisoft Mainz due to its association with the questionable and often downright disgusting actions of its publisher. And no, I will not be destroying my copy of Anno 117 in ten years when Ubisoft intentionally hinders the servers to keep the money churning on new games. I hope, by then, that some꧋one has the guts to push through some legislation that prevents that from happening.
