Earning a victory in Total War: Pharaoh usually means leaning on the nobility for support, or supplanting the current court with more pliable characters. With this guide, you'll have all the knowledge you need to scheme your way to the top of the pyramid.

Court Positions

The Egyptian and Hittite courts each have six positions, including the ruler. Each position grants special abilities, typically one passive power that is always active and another that can be us൩ed once per year, resetting on Shemsu Hor.

Shemsu Hor occurs every sixth turn, and is an important part of court intrigue. You can always see how long it is until Shemsu Hor by looking at the meter near the End Turn button.

Court positions also grant a moderate amount of Legitimacy to their holders; this makes it easier to assert your claim to the throne if you hold such a place of power.🥀 Generally, the closer a position is to the top of the Court Screen, the more Legitimacy it grants.

If a position other than Great King or Pharaoh is vacant, it can be claimed by a player on Shemsu Hor by spending Gold and a Court Action. Characters can only seize the title of Pharaoh or Great King by winning a Civil War - if the ruler title is vacant, it will remain so until﷽ it is sꦦeized.

The Pharaoh or Great King can assign one of their Generals to a Court Position. Doing so makes it so that the ꧃ruler effectively holds that office as well. As their Legitimacy increases, and they unlock more Crown 🐷Powers, they can claim more Positions, potentially controlling the entire court directly!

Plots, Requests, And Intrigues

You can interact with the court and its office-holders by spending Court Actions to enact Plots and Intrigues or to make Requests. Doing so will usually affect the target character's Regard for you.

Regard represents your standing with a particular Court Position. It's effectively a currency that's used to get what you want from the office-holder. If a Court Position changes hands, all characters' Regard with that Position are reset to zero.

Your Regard with Court Position has no impact on the character's faction opinion of you, and vice versa. What happens at the royal court stays at the royal court.

You don't have to hold a Court Position to take Court Actions; you just need to be a member of the appropriate Royal Tradition, which is available to anyone who holds Egyptian or Hittite Sacred Land. By default, players get one Court Action per turn, except Ramesses, who gets two.

Intrigues are the most basic interactions availab😼le, and are primarily used to build up Regard or fu💜rther your Plots.

Requests

Requests cost 60 Regard and allow you to use one of the associated Court Position's powers once. For example, you can request Elite Troops from the🍎 First Commander or High Commander to get access to their special recruitment pool until Shemsu Ho🅰r.

Intrigues and Requests with the Pharaoh or Great King carry an additional Gold cost.

Assassinate

Thꦜe target is killed and their Court Position vacated. If the target is a playable character, they are instead wounded as though their unit had been destroyed in battle.

Plots are long-term schemes that offer large rewards if successfully carried out. Plots can be enacted on any turn except Shemsu Hor, but they require the expenditure of a Court Action. All active Plots are res🌺olved simultaneously on Shemsu Hor, and cannot be sped up or delayed. Starting a Plot earlier in the year gives you more time to level it up, but increases the risk of exposure.

Most Plots have a level from one to five; the higher the level, the more likely the Plot is to succeed when it resolves on Shemsu Hor. Other factors, such as the difference in Legitimacy between the plotter and the target or how many people know about the Plot can also affect its chance of success.

Failing a Plot usually carries a small Legitimacy penalty, but the penalty is increased for each character that was aware of the Plot when it resolved. Using Conspire is a quick way to boost a Plot's level, but it usually means a greater penalty if you fail.

All the Plots that you're aware of, including your own, are listed in the Plots tab of the Court Screen. Clicking on a Plot allows you to spend Court Actions to affect its outcome. Helping or hindering a Plot that isn't your own will earn Regard with the plotter or the target, as appropriate. You can level up your own Plots by spending 30 Regard with the target. You can even spend Gold to stop a Plot that targets you, though the cost increases with the Plot's level.

It's always cheaper to block a Plot if you know who is scheming against you - try Gossiping with anybody who has an active plot to find out who the culprit is!
