Party configuration matters a great deal in Theatrhythm. For example, several categories of characters lend better to some missions than others. Furthermore, like any RPG, Theatrhythm's characters require plenty of time and investment to build them up to their true potential. Thankfully, forming and maintaining your Theatrhythm party is incredibly easy!
How To Edit Your Party
In Theatrhythm, you can assign up to four characters to your party. To do so, first open the Edit Party menu. Then, choose an empty party slot. A side window will let you select any unlocked characters to place in the empty slot. The first slot is the Leader of your party. In battle, if more than one ability triggers simultaneously, the abilities will carry out in order of your party from left to right, startingღ with the Leader.
Each character in your party can equip up to three abilities. Choose an empty ability slot under your character's party slot to equip an ability. Then, a side window will open, allowing you to choose any ability you have unlocked for the character.
If you wish to use a power-up item or an ability scroll on one of your party members, highlight that member's slot and press the Y (Switch) / Square (Playstation) button. Then, choose the item/scroll you wish to use from the side window.
Lastly, there are three slot🐼s adjacent to your party slots which cover the following:
- Summonstones: Equip a summon to add passive effects to your party and attack enemies during BMS stages.
- Airships: Equip an airship to travel to the stage. [Cosmetic only]
- Moogles: Equip a moogle companion with various costumes to choose from. [Cosmetic only]
You can form up to five party presets to meet various mission goals. In addition, you can switch between these party sets in a song's menu before starting the stage.
Character Types
Each character in Theatrhythm has unique strengths and weaknesses that will determine their role in your party. However, to summarize where these strengths and weaknesses lie, Theatrhythm categorizes its characters into types. These are the type🌊s you will encounter in the game.
- Physical Types: This type specializes in physical attacks and makes a solid offensive character in your party.
- Magic Types: This type specializes in magic attacks and abilities. Magic characters can take on many roles in a party. For example, they can cast elemental attacks, cast status ailments, and cure status ailments. In short, you can use their skills for offensive or defensive play.
- Defense Types: This type is similar to physical types, focusing on defensive gameplay. In addition to physical attacks, Defense Types have skills that can guard the party from significant enemy damage.
- Healing Types: This type can use curing spells to heal party members. Healing Types are most useful for extra-challenging songs requiring HP regeneration to compensate for missed music triggers.
- Summon Types: Summon Types excel in Spirit, making summons more powerful and easier to call. They can also use magic and healing abilities.
- Hunter Types: This type excels in Agility and Luck. Plus, they can equip abilities like Mug, Steal, and Haste. Therefore, Hunter Types are great to bring to FMS stages. With a Hunter Type in your party, you will travel faster and gain more treasure chests.
- Support Types: Support Types can boost their teammates' stats with abilities like Cheer, Sinewy Etude, and Hero's Rime. If your party feels subpar, a Support Type can make a significant improvement.
Character Stats
Character Types provide broad overviews of what your characters can do. However, if you're looking for a more detailed understanding of their proficiencies, you should refer to their stats. There are six stats you need to know when studying a character.
- HP: This stat is your character's health points.
- Strength: This stat is the power of your character's physical attacks.
- Magic: This stat rates the power/effectiveness of your character's magic attacks and abilities.
- Spirit: This stat tracks the rate at which your character fills the summon gauge and contributes to your summon's attack power in BMS stages.
- Agility: This stat tracks how fast your character can travel between battles in FMS stages.
- Luck: This stat indicates your character's chance of picking up a treasure chest after defeating an enemy.
Leveling Up Your Characters
The short answer to improving your characters' stats and abilities is playing with them a lot. Music Stage is a great place to go when you need to grind. However, the longer answer to improving your characters' stats and abilities is to level them up, earn CollectaCards, use power-up items, and teach them skills will ability scrolls.
Your character will gain experience whenever they playthrough a stage by defeating enemies, using abilities, etc. Each character in Theatrhythm caps at Level 99. After the level cap, characters can improve by raising their Star Level. Star Levels take more time and investment to build. However, raising a character's Star Level significantly improves their stats and the strength of their abilities. Each character can gain up to nine Star Levels.
Ways You Can Gain More EXP
If you wish to increase the EXP your ღparty gains in Music Stages, ꧂there are two ways they can do so:
-
Consumable Items:
- Silver Growth Egg: Multiplies EXP gained by two for one stage.
- Gold Growth Egg: Multiplies EXP gained by four for one stage.
-
Summonstones:
- Some summonstones include passive effects that increase the amount of EXP earned by your party.
If you equip a Silver Growth Egg and a Gold Growth Egg for the same stage, your EXP g𒁏ained will multiply by eight!
Improving Your Character With CollectaCards
CollectaCards are trading cards you can earn by finding treasure chests, completing series quests, and racking up Rhythmia. Each character has four CollectaCards: a Normal, Rare, Premium, and Special. Once you unlock a Character CollectaCard, the respective character's stats (except HP) will permanently increase.
Improving Your Character With Power-Up Items And Ability Scrolls
There are two types of items you can use to improve your party's characters.
- Power-Up Items: These items permanently increase one of your character's stats.
- Ability Scrolls: These items teach your characters new abilities they may not have due to their character type or ability progression.
How To Unlock New Characters
To unlock new characters in Theatrhythm, you must play Series Quest mode. You will unlock new characters whenever you use a Title Key to unlock a new title (unless the Series Quest menu states the title has no characters to unlock). Additionally, you will also gain new characters from clearing a series title. Usually, this character is a famous boss from the title. For example, clearing Final Fantasy 7 rewards you with Sephiroth. If you wish to know what titles contain a character reward for clearing them, press the View Rewards button. This feature d🦂isplays all the rewards y♔ou will gain from clearing and completing a series title.
