How To Start Monster Slayer

You will need to look for a drowner's corpse floating in the reeds north of the Lakeside Shack that you visit with Lambert in The Final Trial. Geralt can tell at first glance that the monster was not killed by any of the w🍎itchers but instead by a monster.

While not unheard of, the trail of corpses left by the mysterious creature warrants further investigation. Follow the bodies north, using Witcher Senses if necessary. They will lead you to the lake's east bank. Look out for a cave. The monster awaits within.

Searching The Cave

You will come face to face with the culprit, a rock troll that will immediately attempt to kill Geralt. It fights identically to other rock trolls and shares the same vulnerability to Ogroid Oil and Axii.

You can loot the troll for a Cave Troll Liver, an alchemical ingredient that is used in creating several blade oils including Superior Ogroid Oil and Superior Cursed Oil.

Geralt will decide to search the cave after clearing it of pests. You are looking for an old letter inside a half-buried boat. The quest will end once you pick it up.

The letter is a callback to the first game, where Kaer Morhen was attacked by Salamandra in a plot to steal the recipes used for witcher mutations.
