When 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Sims 2 was released, Maxis added a new feature called Scripted Events for its Base Game families. Scripted events were meant to teach players about some of the new game mechanics, like infidelity, affairs, aspiration failure, and💜 more.
These events could (and often did) get dramatic, but one family stands out among the rest for their treacheꦡrous introduction: The Pleasant Family. Despite their name, there is a lot going on with this family, and most of it is, well, rather unpleasant. Between four Sims games and plenty of iterations, here is a complete history of the Pleasant family.
10 🤡 Not So Ple🍬asant
The Pleasant family’s last name is both a misnomer and a bit of a giveaway for what’s to come when you play the family. Their family bio exposes the not-so-pleasant truth behind this family: things are not as they seem. Daniel and Mary-Sue’s relationship is♌ in shambles; Daniel is cheating with their maid, Kalyn Langerak, and Mary-Sue spends so much time working that she doesn’t have time left for her family. Angela and Lilith’s relationships–with their parents or each other–are no better, and they spend more time fighting each other than doing much of anything else.
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Sims 1 and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Sims 3 paint a rosier picture of Plꦦeasant life for Daniel and Mary-Sue, but when the twins come back in T𝓀he Sims 4, their sibling rivalry follows them. At least, sort of; technically, they’re friends, but the lore in their family bio carries on the rivalry.
9 ☂ A Lot In A Name
The first names of many family members have their own significance. Daniel Pleasant’s grandparents are called Les and Kynda 🐈Pleasant, a.k.a. “Less” and “Kind Of”
The name Daniel comes from a Hebrew phrase that “God i🌌s my judg🍌e,” which is interesting given his…well, extramarital discretions.
The name Mary Sue often refers to characters that are considered too perfect or overpowered to be realistic. And most famously, Angela and Lilith’s name derive from &ldq﷽uo;angel” and “of the dark” respectively, which plays on their ‘good’ and ‘bad’ twin dynamic.
8 🅷 𓄧 Sims 1: Reaching For (Sim) Mars
In The Sims, the Pleasants are a family bin family in Neighborhood 1. They’re new to the neighborhood, and Jeff, Diane, Danꦿiel, and Jennifer (who becomes Jennifer Burb in The Sims 2) want to settle into their new lives. One notable goal was that Jeff Pleasant wants to go to the mars, which is a nod to another Maxis game, SimMars, which was in development during that time. But in the wake of The Sims’ success, development of SimMars was put on hold indefinitely, and never returned to. A grown up Daniel in The Sims 2 still holds onto the “overwhelming guilt” that Jeff never forgot to 𝔍fulfill that dream.
7 ꦚ 🐲Sims 2: A Flimsy Facade
, The Sims 2 sees the friendly and athletic Pleasant siblings grown up, both married and with their own families. Daniel has married Mary-Sue, and he lives in an actual Pleasantview lot with her and their twins, Angela and Lilith. The twins’ memories indicate that Angela was taught to walk, talk, and be potty-trained by her parents, while Lilith wasn’t. Angela also always grew up well, but Lilith grew up badly. This seems to imply that Daniel and Mary-Sue favored Angela over Lilith, but most players feel the opposite way. One thing Daniel does not favo🗹r, though, is Angela’s boyfriend, Dustin Broke–so much so that they’re actually enemies. Daniel doesn’t seem to mind Lilith’s boyfriend, Dirk, but he definitely doesn’t like his angel Angela dating Pleasantview’s resident bad boy.
6 🍌 Sub-Burban Bliss ಞ
Jennifer Burb alℱso appears in Pleasantview, but she remains a family bin Sim. In this timeline, though, she’༺s married to John Burb (also from The Sims) and they have a child daughter named Lucy. Unlike her brother, Jennifer’s family life is anything but dramatic
She and John love each other and get along well, and their daughter is a typical, happy-go-lucky kid. But while Daniel lives up to his athletic persona in The Sims 2, Jennifer suddenly has no interest in sports anymore; instead, she likes fashion and entertainment, and often wants to work in the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Law or Business career.
5 🐈 Sims 3: The Honeymoon Phase
The Sims 3’s timeline technically exists before The Sims 1 and The Sims 2, but each DLC also has its own separate timeline. Newly married Daniel and Mary-Sue are Young Adults, happy on their honeymoon in Sunlit Tides (available for purchase on The Sims 3 Store) and enjoying married life before they settle down and become responsible adults. Mary-Sue is not yet pregnant, and if the player has she and Daniel Try for Baby, she won’t automatically have twins unless the player cheats them. Babies born in-game can be any gender, but based on the genetic systems in the Sims, they’ll likely have black hair and brown eyes, 𓃲rather than Angela and Lilith’s red hair and green eyes.
4 ꦺSims 4: In The Gallery, But Not The Gam💟e
The Pleasants were uploaded to the Sims 4’s Gallery in 2019, in honor of the 19th anniversary of The Sims franchise. Here, they best reflected their most infamous Sims 2 selves: Daniel and Mary-Sue were both adults, while Angela and Lilith were teenagers. They were very true to their former characters, too, save for a couple of changes to make them 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Base Game friendly; Mary-Sue wasn’t actually a politician, for example, since Politician was a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:City Living career not included in the Base Game. Their family bio is the same as it was in The Sims 2, which is a nice nosꦜtalgic touch.
3 ൩ University Life And Lore ༺
Angela and Lilith were also featured as Young Adult townies in the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Discover University expansion pack, and while Dani൲el and Mary-Sue didn’t make the cut, they were mentioned in the twins’ bio as the ones who paid for the girls’ Britechester house. Both twins are attending university, with Angela studying Art History at Brite🥃chester and Lilith studying Villainy at Foxberry.
Despite their different persona🦄lities and styles, Angela and Lilith aಞre actually friends in The Sims 4, and will never autonomously fight. They’re also not dating their Sims 2 partners, Dustin Broke and Dirk Dreamer, both of whom appear in The Sims 4: Get Famous, but players could still get them together if they wanted to.
2 Scripted Events ꦬ
So, what is the scripted event for the Pleasant family, anyway? What about their event has made them a staple in the rest of the Sims games? It hinges on Daniel and Kaylynn’s affair--a neat and tidy child in The Sims 3, in The Sims 2, Kaylynn Langerak is Pleasantview's maid, who also is having affairs with both Daniel Pleasant and Don Lothario. When you start playing the Pleasant household, everyone but Daniel will conveniently leave for work or school, leaving him home alone with Kaylynn.
The Sims 2 game guides recommend having Kaylynn and Daniel Make Out or Cuddle in bed until a Chance Card pops up for Mary-Sue. Unfortunately for her, both options are bad; the result will either have her demoted or fired, but either way, she’ll come home early. As soon as you click out of the Chance Card, have Daniel and K🧸aylynn Woohoo; this timing will mean that Mary-Sue will catꦛch them when she gets home. Mary-Sue, of course, will be furious; she might go into aspiration failure, and her relationship with Daniel will be all the way in the red.
1 🐬 Pleasantly Cordial 🧜
Many players have noticed that the Cordial sisters Samantha and Kimberly, resident witches of Belladonna Cove, share certain traits with the Pleasant twins. Both sets of sisters are twins with a sibling rivalry, with one twin (Angela, Samantha) having a ‘good,’ innocent style, and one being m﷽ore rebellious (Lilith, Kimberly). The origins of Angela and Lilith’s names also relate to the fact that Samantha is pursuing good magic, while Kimberly is pursuing the ways of darkness–this tracks with the angelic and demonic origins of Angela and Lilith. There are also coincidences across a number of this family’s names: their father Danny harkens back to Daniel, and their grandparents Sage and Coralia resembles Herb and Coral Oldie.
For many players, though, the true giveaway is their family bio, which reveals that “Samantha and Kimberly had such bad sibling rivalry they were asked to leave the pleasant, little town in which they had grown." Was this pleasant, little town actually Pleasantview in a different timeline? It’s not clear that they’re actually related; many families shipped with different expansion packs take inspiration from Base Game families (like the Roths being 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:inspired by the Goths), so this looks to be the case here, too.
