There are a large number of new wedding outfits, both smart and more casual, as well as♏ a range of items including cakes, bouquets, wedding arches, and furniture. The core feature of the pack is the new gameplay elements that overhaul weddings to add new traditions and activities.
While theꦉ 𒆙assets look fantastic, the weddings themselves now, unfortunately, emulate those IRL ceremonies you have to attend out of duty and spend the entire time wondering when is the earliest you can leave without offending anyone.
My first look at My Wedding Stories was a couple of weeks back when the pack was still considered to be unfinished, despite being only 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a couple of 🐎daysﷺ from release at the time. At this point, the gameplay♌ element was accidentally chaotic. After spending 14 hours trying to exchange vows without one of my Sims running away, I de🌃cided they were trying to tell me something and turned instead to the build and buy items.
As The Sims 4 has progressed, the build and buy items have improved considerably, and the high standard remains the same in this pack. There is a good selection of items and all the staples have a large number of swatches. With regard to items usable o💜n a regular basis, there is a faded pastel wallpaper as well as several door and window options with swatches for ornate and everyday options. You’ll also find curtains, benches, chairs, tables, a new bar, two tea sets, and some decorative candles and lanterns. There are even a couple of pagodas for your backyard. These are complemented by a range of wedding arches, aisles, flower arrangements, dancefloor designs, decorative items, and buffet tables.
For builders, there are more options than I expected, based on the theme. You can build chapels, wedding venues, and backyards suitable for almost any occasion. With the help of Get To Work, I even buiꦐlt an entire wedding village with stores selling flowers, cakes, outfits, and more.
Clothing options are also diverse with a good range of dresses, suits, and two-piece options for both male and female frames. The wedding dresses include several different styles and varying levels of detail and decoration. You can also see a multicultural influence in the clothing, including some beautiful modest dre🔜ss designs with matching hijabs. Suits are available for male and 𝓀female fits, or you can choose from a handful of two-piece options that match well with base game items. There are also a number of bridesmaid appropriate styles and several items are also casual enough to wear regularly. Sadly, there isn’t much for children, but the couple of choices included are quite versatile.
Now for the elephant in the room, gameplay. The idea behind the new features is solid, although aspects of it feel like they are being artificially inflated. When you open the new calendar option to create a wedding event you are given seven different🐭 choices; Engagement Dinner, Bach Party, Rehearsal Dinner, Wedding Ceremony, Family Gathering, and Vow Renewal. Realistically, these are all pretty much the same, they just allow you to select sl💧ightly different traditions. There are 14 new traditions in total and holding a wedding ceremony allows you to choose up to 13 options. The only one you can’t pick is desserts, which adds exactly zero to the occasion anyway, since you can still cut and eat your wedding cake… kind of.
In order to pꦫroperly host a wedding, you’ll need to do some legwork. If you want a Sim of Honor, Flower Pal, Ring Bearer, and Officiant you’ll ideally need to ask Sims to fulfill these roles before you create the event, although if you forget you can edit the event before it begins. You will also need to head into town to pick up a cake and some flowers. The wedding dress store is just a ♚facade and you’ll choose your outfit by entering create a sim from the wedding event itself. You can then decide which traditions you want to partake in, choose a venue, and set the time and date. In theory, you have now planned your perfect day. In practice, you’ve started a test of patience.
I believe in giving every pack a fair chance, so after my pre-release disaster I wa🌟ited for the update we were told would fix these issues to be releasedꦿ and started again. Unfortunately, the experience wasn’t really improved. Hosting a Sim wedding is the most frustrating thing I’ve ever tried to do in the game. All the recent advances in terms of being able to more easily control groups of Sims appear to have been thrown out of the window and chaos reigns once more.
Some traditions work well. Slow dancing is a welcome addition, the new tea set is functional and allows you to serve tea to your guests, and well wishers can blow bubbles and ꦍthrow rice. Sadly, this is pretty much the full list of things that actually work. The core functionality of weddings I found to be hit and miss at best.
Officiants will not conduct ceremonies, and even just exchanging vows was difficult with Sims often wandering off. You can walk down the aisle but it appears to be at the whim of an individual Sim. Guests will also either sit down and refuse to move at all or stand right in the aisle or another inconvenient place. No one will stop talking at any time, not even during the ceremony, and 🐻all the options to call guests to do specific things appear to do nothing in the vast majority of c𓆉ases.
I held a number of weddings in the pre-built venue and backyard as well as in a custom-built venue I made with no distractions. This made no difference. Nor did the type of event affect Sim's willingness to listen. I made toasts to myself, no one would make a speech, and there are no options that enable you to call Sims to a meal, meaning at best they’ll go and eat by the aisle, or in your house. I purchased a wedding cake but it never showed up, and none of my Sims got changed into their outfits when the event started. The dress code also refuses to save, meaning all guests just wear their regular everyday clothing.
After manually changing Sims, and making my own cake, I discovered another issue. Wedding cakes have a ridiculously short shelf life. This means that unless you cut your cake within about six hours of the event starting a helpful guest will throw the entire thing in the bin. Given that🙈 it can take three hours just to get Sims to show up and assemble in vaguely the right place this is almost impossible.
In short, the entire day was far more stressful than any wedding I have been involved in, including my own. A๊s it stands those who enjoy the gameplay aspects of The Sims 4 are once again being shortchanged. After months of just kits, most of which are clothing-based, the first sniff of gameplay is completely and utterly broken. Until there is an update that actually fixes these issues then the pack is only worthwhile for those who are interested in the clothing and furniture.
