Why Do I Need To Train My Horses?
In The Sims 4 Horse Ranch, you're able to train your horses in four different skills. The majority are active training, but one is a passive skill as your horse becomes be𒅌tter at socializing over time.

If you don't want to participate in training horses yourself, you can send them for training by checking out one of the Community Boards around town.
In general, horses with better Temperament skills are far better at socializing. These are the horses you want to train on if you're new to horse riding, as they're friendlier and more docile.
How To Build The Temperament Skill
The Temperament skill is possibly the easiest horse skill to build, as the majority of your interactions with your horse contribute.
Pretty much all social interactions count toward building your horse's Temperance skill.
Continue to perform Friendly or Funny interactions with your ho🌳rse often, and your horse will b𒆙ecome more temperate in time.
Outside regular care and time with your horse, you don't need to directly work on the Temperament skill, instead letting it build passively as you work to grow the bond you share.
How To Build The Agility Skill
The primary way to build your horse's Agility skill is to train them on the Barrels.
Purchased in a pair, training your horse on the Barrels sees them running circles around the two barrels to work on how sharp their turns are.
There are a few options for Barrel training:
- "Practice Barrels" is the easiest training and is good for beginner horses.
- "Race Barrels" picks up the pace quite a bit, and is only available past Level Five Agility.
- "Intensely Train" is like when human Sims do intense runs, offering more skill gain in exchange for your horse becoming easy to Fatigue.
Regular riding will not impact a horse's Agility - this skill needs to be specially trained using the Barrels
How To Build The Jumping Skill
While it may be fairly obvious, your horse will need to practice their jumps in t🎐heir time off from competitions in order to🍸 improve.
This can be done using Horse Jumps, placed either on your home lot𝔍 or o𓃲n one of the community lots in Chestnut Ridge.
When you first begin training your horse in the Jumping skill, they're quite hesitant to jump.
They'll often knock down the bar as they attempt to clear it in th🔯e earliest days of their training.
Horses will practice jumping continuously, unless they knock the bar down.
If this happens, you need to manually reset the bar 🌳by ဣclicking on the setup and telling your Sim to set it back up.
You can ride your horse while it practices if you need to get some practice in yourself in your Horse Riding skill, or you can instruct a horse to practice on its own if you're otherwise busy.
As horses get better at Jumping, you'll have the option to add more bars to the jump if you're trying to ramp up the difficulty after Jumping Level Five.
How To Build The Endurance Skill
The only way to build Endurance when working on any physical skill is simply consistent practice. For horses, this means riding them as often as you can.
It doesn't matter if you use them for transportation around town as you go about your day, if you're training at home, or even just out for a leisure ride - the more you ride, theﷺ better they endure the next ride.
The same way you build your own Riding skill, Endurance is relatively passive - just ride the horse and watch its skill bar increase as you trot around town.
It's a great way to get better at horse riding, and for your horse to get better at being ridden!
