The reveal of Scrooge McDuck for Into the Inklands was an exciting moment for Disney Lorcana. DuckTales and TaleSpin are fan-favorite Disney cartoons that feel right at home in the nꦑew 𓆏adventure-themed expansion, and their inclusion opens the door for more TV shows and other, non-Walt Disney Animated Studios characters (Powerline anyone?)
For me, the most exciting thing about the Uncle Scrooge reveal wasn’t seeing Ducktales in Lorcana sooner than expected, it was the coins motif in the background of the card’s text box. No, really. I know every Disney character under the sun, from Mickey Mouse to Thaddeus E. Klang, is even💧tually going to show up in Lorcana. But I was surprised to see one specific card get a special, thematic redesign. There’s a clever full-art quality to the way Scrooge’s giant pile of coins cascades down through the frame and fills the text box, and you’ll see this motif on both the Super Rare Scrooge and his uncommon counterpart.
It gets even better when you look at the foil version of Scrooge McDuck, Richest Duck in the World. The Ruby/Sapphire starter deck comes with one, and yo𝔍u’ll likely be able to see the foil treatment on this card when it gets added to the Lorcana app as well. If you tilt the card at the right angle, you’ll see a special pattern embedded in the foil. There are dollar signs hidden in the background of the card, like a secret extra layer in the art just to make this Scrooge card even more special.

Disney Lorcana: Into The Inklands – Amber/Emera🐓ld Starter Deck Guide
Dogged and Dynamic is a go-wide deck for puppy lovers and those who like to play a lot of charact🐈ers.
With Into the Inklands, Ravensburger is already starting to break the mold in the card layout in fun and surprising ways. When Jim Hawkins was revealed as the expansion’s first Legendary, fans noticed that Jim’s hair and a piece of the rope he’s holding are just barely breaking out of the frame and overlapping the black border. Since then, every Legendary revealed so far has had a little frame break of its own. Mickey’s trumpet sticks out of the right side of the frame, the crag the Lucky Dime sits on juts out of the frame at the top, and as Robin Hood, Champion of Sherwood holds up a falling door, and arrow pi🐠ercing throu𓂃gh it continues through, piercing the top of the text box as well.
These small touches are the definition of Disney Magic. It's those thoughtful, creative, meaningful little moments that have elevated Disney to be so beloved. When Disney is at its best, it’s going above and beyond, focusing on every little detail, adding things that others wouldn’t bother including, even knowing most won’t notice or appreciate the extra effort. Disney has done this in its movies, theme parks, and everywhere in between for generations, and now Lorcana is carrying on that tradition in its art and design. Ravensburger gets what Disney magic is all about and is already finding brilliant ways to surprise us. The foil dollar signs are such a small thing, but they make such a huge difference.
There may yet be more surprises to come in Into the Inklands. Though most of the cards in the expansion have been revealed now, things like Scrooge’s dollar signs can’t be discovered until it gets into players’ hands. I’m ho🔯ping to see more unique foil treatments for other cards in this set, but even if this was a special one-off just for Scroog🔴e, it opens the door to other special redesigns and unique aesthetic elements in the future. I welcome more frame brakes and more character-specific foil patterns, but more than anything, I’m looking forward to the next surprise, because that’s where the magic is.
