Story Differences

Breath of the Wild is set 100 years after Link is put to sleep by Zelda in order to protect Hyrule. As we know, Ganon is sealed within Hyrule Castle, growing stronger each day. In this storyline, the people of Hyrule were not victorious 100 years in the past. Although Link didn't die, he was gravely injured; Zelda also sealed herself in the castle with Ganon to stop his destruction. Overall, things were not too great.

Age of Calamity takes place on a different timeline than Breath of the Wild. Instead of taking a clo🍌ser look at the Great Calamity, the game stems from it, creating a separate timel🦹ine.

Creating A New Timeline

Hyrule Warriors Age Of Calamity Screenshot Of Link

As we ♒mentioned above, the Age of Calamity timeline stems from that in Breath of the Wild. At the end of Breath of the Wild, Zelda awakens her powers and in turn, wakes a small Guardian. This little guy wakes and sees Zelda pleading for help and opens a portal.

This portal brings the Guardian right back to the time before the Great Calamity, whe♎n King Rhoam is rallying the troops. This also marks the first mission in the game, where you play as Link, fending off monsters.

Overall, the timeline of Age of Calamity i🅘s established by🍌 the time travel portal the little Guardian opened.

Meeting The Guardian

Terrako Age of Calamity

At this point, we haven't seen the time-traveling Guardian yet, but as Impa appears and drops her Sheikah Slate, the Guardian wakes and a tower rises from the ground. The battle continues, and the Guardian eventually leaves to find Zelda.

Zelda is interested in the Guardian's connection to the Sheikah Slate, so she heads to the Ancient Tech Lab where we see a few familiar faces; Robbie and Purah. Here, Purah discovered that the little Guardian has the ability to 'amplify' other technology.

While researching, the group also learns of the Guardian's memory, which shows Zelda facing off against Ganon at the end of Breath of the Wild.

Champions Assemble

age of calamity champions lined up

After learning about the Guardian, it's time to meet the four prospective Champions that will be tasked with controlling each Divine Beast. The Guardian comes with you as you meet the four characters.

From here, you can meet up with the Champions in any order, but we'll start with Urbosa. When arriving at Gerudo Town, you are attacked by what seems to be Urbosa and her troops, but it's actually the Yiga Clan in disguise. After a battle, Urbosa is grateful for the help and agrees to pilot Vah Naboris.

The Yiga Clan retreats, but we see a cutscene where🌟 the Dark Prophet Astor and a corrupted version of꧑ the little Guardian peer into a vision of the future, showing the Great Calamity destroying Hyrule. It seems that Astor wants this vision to come true.

Eventually, it's revealed that his Guardian is possessed by none other than Calamity Ganon.

Next, we head to Daruk. This section is rather short; head up Death Mountain and confront Daruk about piloting Vah Rudania. He agrees, but he first asks for 🔯help taking down the monsters on the mountain.

Now, we are at the midway point of meeting the Champions. Heading to Rito Village, we meet Revali, who thinks Zelda and her allies are raiders. After the battle, Re𒀰vali mentions that the Rito were attacked by a group t🍷hat had a Guardian similar to your little companion. This Guardian in question is the one that accompanies Astor.

Finally, it's time to recruit Mipha. At the Zora's Domain, King Dorephan speaks to Zelda mentioning that he thinks it's unsafe for Mipha to pilot a Divine Beast. During this conversation, a monster attack occurs, and a younger version of Sidon has gone missing.

With your help, the Zora defeat monsters and locate Sidon. To aid in battle, Mipha pilots Vah Ruta and saves the day. Upon seeing this, Dorephan realizes that she is capablꦇe, and she officially becomes a Champion.

During each sectio🌳n🎉, you get the chance to pilot the Divine Beasts.

The Master Sword

Age of Calamity trio

With the team together, Zelda sets off for Korok Forest in order to find the Master Sword, as well as a knight to wield it. At this point, Link is along for the ride, but he isn't the chosen hero just yet.

While navigating through the forest, Astor appears and sends enemies to attack. Additionally, there are Hollow, 🔯which are essentially shadow versions of the Champions, made out of Malice.

With Hestu's aid, Link and Zelda find the Master Sword, as well as Astor, who creates the four Hollow once again. This is a tough battle; it breaks Link's sword, which causes him to pick up the Master Sword and after some more battling, Astor flees. Shortly after this, the Great Deku Tree wakes up to tell Zelda that Link is the chosen wielder of the sword.

Back near Hyrule Castle, a ceremony take🍰s place in honor of Link and t♚he Four Champions.

Activating The Sheikah Towers

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity Robbie and Purah Pose

All this time, Purah remained hard at work researching the Sheikah Tower. Based on Breath of the Wild, we know that there are several towers throughout the land. Purah figures this out and tasks you with finding them ꦑand pairing them with the Sheikah Slate.

After several missions of Tower/Slate linking, you come to the final location in Akkala. Here, the Tiga Clan appears, but you ba💝ttle them, causing th🃏em to flee again.

Rather than leaving the Yiga alone, you 🔯will follow them into their hideout. During your battle, you successfully defeat Kohga and Sooga, but Astor tells them that their defeat is all according to plan.

Zelda's Training

Similar to Breath of the Wild,🌱 Zelda still cannot awaken her powers🌃 and spends time training at the Spring of Courage. Since the Spring of Wisdom can only be entered by those over 17, Zelda waits until then and sets out for Mount Lanayru.

On this day, Purah and Robbie conclude their research on the little Guardian, but they are captured by the Yiga Clan. Fortunately, P𝄹urah gives the Sheikah Slate tﷺo the Guardian, who then finds Zelda on her way to Mount Lanayru.

Blighted Ganons

age of calamity all past and future champions together

The Blighted versions of Ganon from Breath💜 of the Wild appear, and this is where the story starts to get eᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚven more fantastical.

While fi😼ghting Fireblight and Waterblight versions of Ganon, Daruk and Mipha are really struggling, but through portals from the Breath of the Wild timeline, Sidon and Yunobo appear.

With the help of adult Sidon and Yunobo, the Blighted Ganons are defeated. This happens to Urbosa and Revali as well;☂ on the brink of defeat, Ri🍬ju and Teba appear to save the champions.

Dark Prophet Astor

Astor hasn't appeared in battle in a while, but he is still hard at work being a menace. While meeting with the time-traveling Champions, Astor is working to resurrect the Blighted Ganons, which outrages Kohga and Sooga. Sooga tells Kohga to flee, but stays behind with Astor and the newly resurrected Blights.

From here, Astor heads to Akkala Citadel, where our protagonists are battling monsters and Guardians. Astor once again summons the Blights to attack Link, who is really struggling to stay afloat. At this moment though, Zelda's powers awaken and save Link.

With the enemies destroyed, Zelda gives a motiv༒ational speech and meets a mysterious soldier who turns out to be Kohga in disguise. Instead of attacking, he joins forces with Zelda and wants to put a stop to Astor.

The Final Battle

Now, the climax of the game is coming into focus. Zelda and all her allies head to the Great Plateau where Purah reactivates all the towers. Purah also has the idea to usꦦe the Shrine of Resurrection as a teleportation point, ꧙similar to the Sheikah Towers.

With the Shrine o🥃f Resurrection neꦿarby, the group enters to find King Rhoam alive. Somehow, a relic that Zelda gave him earlier turned out to be a shield, which protected him from death.

The relic was given to Rhoam earlier in the story, when he was frustrated at Zelda's inability to use her powers. Zelda gave him the relic that she and her mother thought contained a hidden power. They were right; it was a shield.

With King Rhoam alive, the battle ramps up as a Blood Moon rises and revives all enemies. The champions are strong through, and manage to make it to Hyrule Castle, where Astor is waiting. By his side is the corrupted Guardian, which is the original little Guardian of the timeline. Remember, the little Guardian by Zelda's side throughout this game is from the Breath of the Wild timeline.

Astor's corrupted Guardian transforms into Harbringer Ganon, but Link manages to push the two back during battle. Of course, this does not satisfy Astor, and Harbringer Ganon consumes him, releasing a surge of power that corrupts nearby Guardians.

Thi🌸s corruption reaches our little friend, who is damaged. While mourning, Zelda has a flashback; as a child, she named him Terrako, and he serves as a friend. Young Zelda was proud of this little Guardian, but he was eventually taken by Rhoam, who thought that it was just a toy.

Upon seeing the broken Terrako, Zelda and the champions try to finally defeat Calamity Ganon, but it's no use. While battling this final time, Terrako reactivates and manages to fling itself toward Ganon while self-destructing. This breaks Ganon's shield, allowing you to attack and seal Calamity Ganon.

Farewell, Champions

The fight against Calamity Ganon is now over, and the time-traveling champions return to their own t𝄹imeline.

This doesn't mark the end of Terrako though! Together, Purah and Zelda use pieces from around the kingdom to put him back together. Miraculously, it works, and Terrako reactivates.
