It’s not often we get to attend parties in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Elder Scrolls. After we slay Alduin and thwart his attempts to eat Nirn in Skyrim, we’re thrown back into the snowy wastes, and after Mehrune Dagon is🍰 shoved back into the Deadlands to… kind-of-die, the best we get is a pat on the back from the Blades.
When we do get a chance to let loose and Fuཧs Ro Dah-nce, it ends up being the same old bloodbath as any other quest, but Oblivion spruces it up by making us the star of our very own whodunit. One where, rather than the killer getting unmasked by a nosy detective, we pick off the guests one by one in service of an ancient corpse꧅.
Still a bloodbath, sure, but a goofy one where we get to walk around pretending we haven’t got a clue who’s painting the halls red. I’m talking about the aptly named quest, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Whodunit?, where you—a total stranger—show up to a reunion in service of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Dark Brotherhood, tasked with sabotaging their game night by murdering all five of your fellow partygoers. Unlike the usual st෴ealth-kill-and-run quests, we get to manipulate and toy with each guest, pitting them against each other while gaining their friendship to shirk suspicion. It’s a devious twist on the whodunit formula – a reverse whodunit or youdunit, if you will – and it’s ever so brilliant.
As soon as we walk into the house, we can decla💛re that we’re an assassin. You’d think that’d end the quest and turn it into the usual headless-chicken NPC scramble where they panic and run into walls Instead, they laugh it off, thinking you’re just a funny prankster. Just a silly little guy. You’re not, but at least they like you now. From there, we get to meet the guests—Dovesi Dran, Matilde Petit, Nels the Naughty, Neville, and Primo Antonius.
You have to kill one to get the ball rolling, and I like to play it simple—wait for someone to wander off alone, a big whodunit no-no, and then shove a dagger in their back. ‘Oh no! Whoever could have done this?’ Definitely not the person still holding a dagger. It’s an Oblivion murder mystery, and that means it’s completely nonsensical.💙
Your Dark Brotherhood contact (who is posing as the doorman) tells you off for wearing the cult’s hood, but none of the guests will notice or care, and even if you wander around waving a dagger, you won’t be suspected. Should anyone start to think it’s you, it’s easy enough to shake the claims off. Just spin the dialogue minigame wheel a few times. Hell, you can even bribe all the guests to like yo🎃u and then loot the cash off their corpses when you’re done.
You can guide the quest in all different directions. There’s the slow and methodical method of stirring drama, leaving them busy while you pick them off, or you can sneak i🌊n and cast frenzy, making them all kill each other. Whodunit? They all did! If it’s your tenth time doing the quest, you can always dash in and murder everyone in the open with a giant axe, but I&rsqu🍃o;m not sure that’s really in the spirit of an Agatha Christie novel.
You do♛n’t even need frenzy to pit the guests against each other, since you can trick Nels into killing Primo, luring Neville downstairs to investigate. In the chaos, Dovesi attacks Neville, but we can help her by swapping Neville’s armour for something cursed, maybe enchanting some gear with drain health. You can do this quest any way you want, so long as all five guests die, which is surprisingly open for a whodunit story. Endings tend to be limited to a villain reveal before they’re shuffled off to the receiving end of justice. Making us the villain is an intriguing twist that turns an otherwise basic contract into one of the most memorable Dark Brotherhood quests in the series.
Oblivion excelled at turning assassination missions into unique stories in their own right, each one as fresh as the last, but Whodunit? is bottled immersive sim magic, letting you mingle and get to know your targets to find the best ways to take them out. I’ll forever feel bad for punting Matilde’s corpse down the stairs after casting fireballs at Nels the Naughty in the bedroom, but she was already dead, so nobody thought it was that suspicious. Just 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:another day in Cyrodiil. This is the same place where the guards turn into Terminators if you so much as look at a locked door, so it sho🧸uld hardly be a surprise when a complete stranger walks into yourꦇ party and everyone drops dead.
