The original game was developed by Aquria for the PlayStation Vita in Japan in June 2016, and published by Atlus USA in North Amer𝕴ica and Europ🦋e in May 2017.

Aquria, the developer of The Caligula Effect, is also k൩nown for developing Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment, Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment and the sequel Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization based on the popular Japanese light novel series, Sword Art Online.

NIS America also released a remake of the original game titled The Caligula Effect: Overdose[d] in March 2019 for PS4, Nintendo Switch, and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Microsoft Windows. In addition, an anime television serওies adaptation of The Caligula Effect, produced by studio Satelight, aired from April 8 to June 24, 2018 in Japan. The series was released by Discotek Media in North America on Blu-ray last August.
