Over the last year, I’ve had a rollercoaster of a relationship with . I had no iಌdea the Hades-like even existed when it first launched on Arcade in 2023, but I was obsessed from the moment that Nintendo revealed it was coming to as a timed console exclusive to🎃wards the start of 2024.

Actually playing Splintered Fate on the Switch was a bit less exciting, though. As much as I l𓃲oved the roguelike gameplay and unique﷽ adaptation of the Turtles, I found that the handheld struggled to keep up with the fast-paced action. It probably🦂 doesn't help that the Switch also isn’t my console of choice, but my main takeaway ended up being that I’d rather play it on any other system.

A few months after that, my wish was granted with a Steam port that fixed most of the Switch ൲version’s technical issues, as well as giving me the chance to try out its unique online co-op features without wanting to throw my laggy Switch into the sewers. Splintered Fate got considerably better for me with this jump, but having to play while squinting at a monitor still wasn’t🅘 the ideal way to sink into the roguelike experience like🌺 I wanted.

Now Is The Best Time To Jump Into TMNT: Splintered Fate

Casey fighting with the Turtles in TMNT: Splintered Fate.

I’ve spent the months since Splintered Fate’s Steam release hoping and praying that Super Evil Megacorp would finally do 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:what th🎉ey teased when I chatted to🎃 them last year and bring the game over to other consoles, especially now that my beloved Ca♕sey Jones was in the mix. That time is here at last, as one of my favourite TMNT games in recent memory is finally playable on , my console o𒆙f choice and my n꧑ew one-stop shop for Splintered Fate.

If you’re expecting a big leap from the Steam release of Splintered Fate to its PS5 iteration, like we had when it left the Switch, then you’re going to be disappointed, as it’s basically a straight port of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:same game that I’ve happily talked about🍸 to death and kno♍w inside and out. That means everything I’ve said about Splintered Fate in the past still holds true for the PS5 release, both good ✤and bad.

This game’s unique version of the Turtles still rules and is one of my all-time favourites ac🎀ross the franchise, even if the overall story doesn’t do all that much interesting. The -esque gameplay is as satisfying as ever, with some uꦦnique twists that don’t quite stop it from getting repetitive as you reach the endgame and see everything on offer. And yes, Casey Jones is just as busted as always, alongside being an excellent addition to the cast.

The Casey Jones DLC also added some much-needed variety to the original game by﷽ introducing a new path during runs.

Beyond seeming a little shinier thanks to a 4K telly and a PS5 Pro, the latest port is still just Splintered Fate, warts and all. If you’ve played it before, then you’ll know exactly what to expect, this time presumably from the comfort of a sofa instead of sitting at a desk or hunching over a Switch. If you’ve not played, then you’re in for 🙈a great roguelike that I can't recommend enough, with plenty of love for the source material and enough twists to make it feel unique from its clear inspirations.

The Same TMNT Experience, But One That I Can Finally Play From My Couch

Leonardo fighting Karai in TMNT: Splintered Fate.

Even with the latest versions being basically unchanged, I can still confidently say that (or , if you prefer) is the best place to play Splintered Fate. As 🅰with anything, it’s mostly down to personal preferen🌜ce, but having the strength, stability, and reliable online of the Steam release combined with the ease of access that the Switch version had results in Splintered Fate at its very best.

The only thing that Splintered Fate has lost since it was on Switch is🤪 its portability, but that can even be fixed with a PlayStation Portal.

Playing on PS5 also gave me a chance to properly try out one of the standout features of Spintered Fate - couch co-op. I briefly played online co-op when the game first came ﷽to Steam, but th💝e Switch struggled so much with just one player that sitting down with a friend and a second controller felt impossible. That's no longer the case on the PS5 and Xbox, though.

Having finally tried it out with my less TMNT-enthused partner over several runs, it feels like I’ve been missing a big part of what makes Splintered Fate so special, as there aren’t many other games in the genre that offer split-screen. Two players also means that the final few areas of a run that a༒lways gave me grief are a lot easier to get through, which significantly reduces the repetition that I’d say is still Splintered Fate’s main flaw to overcome in future updates. Then again, I have played it for 50 hours or so, so it might be a me problem.

Combine that with the online co-op very likely being a smoother experience than on Switch, and the PS5 and Xbox releases come out on top as the new best way to play TMNT: Splintered Fate. Well, that is until the Switch 2 edition inevitably launches later down the line with improved performance and I’m sucked right back into the moreish roguelike loo🐻p for the fifth time. You won’t hear me complaining when that happens, but until then the PS5 is top dog.
