Team17 h🔥as announced today that it is scrapping its controversial MetaWorms NFT project after significant backlash from both fans and partnered developers.

The publisher announced the news via the official Team17 Twitter account earlier today, claiming that it has scrapped the project due to feedback from "development partners" and "game communities" and the "concerns they've expressed". Team17 has now claimed that it will "step back" from the NFT space altogether.

In case you missed the news (it happened so fast that we wouldn't blame you) Worms developer Team17 recently announced that it would be hopping on board the NFT bandwagon and turning its 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:iconic Worms franchise into NFTs, not something that any righ🍌t-mindeඣd Worms fan would be pleased to hear about.

Rather predictably, Team17 received a large amount of backlash over the project, most notably from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:several high-profile developers under its wing. Going Under developer , Yooka-Layl🐻ee developer , and Overcooked developer all came out with statements criticizing Team17 for its decision whilst also reiterating their hatred of NFTs as a whole.

With the amount of developers in the gaming industry that have had to scrap potential NFT plans over the past year, you'd think that Team17 would have seen this backlash coming. Stalker 2 developer CGS Game World also recently came under fire for attempting to integrate NFTs into its games, a project it also 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:had to scrap due to similar fan backlash.

It's not just developers in the firing line either, with renowned voice actor Troy Baker also catching some heat after announcing he would be partnering with Voiceverse to create the world's first ever 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:"Voice NFT". Baker has since 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:apologized for his involvement in t🎶he project and has decided to step away from NFTs as 🍌well.

Team17's incredibly brief stint with NFTs lasted only 24 hours, but you have to question who thought there wouldn't be significant backlash in the first place. Hopefully, other publishers out there take note of the backlash and cancel any potential NFT projects in the wings. Unfortunately, as history has proven, it's looking unlikely.
