Tales of Arise, first planned for release in 2020 and later delayed, might claw its way back up to release sooner than we expected. The game has been rated in two countries this month - Australia and Brazil - and while non-finished games can be submitted and later resubmitted, optimists among us might assume that the multiple su🍰bmissions mean the latest Tales game will be releasing sooner rather than later, possibly even early next year.
The Australian has given Tales of Arise a score of Moderate for most of the expected reasons: fantasy themes and violence. It contains no warnings for drug use or nudity, and has "mild impact language". These ratings are all generally applicable across th🍎e whole series, so it's not telling us a whole lot that we couldn't already glean from las♐t year's trailer.
Given thatꦬ it's been four years since the release of Tales of Berseria, a lot of Tales fans are eager to get their hands on Arise, thus ending what has been the longest break in main series releases since the first game came out in 1995. While the games have been getting a bit farther apart as time goes on and the making of video games becomes more complex, the last two entries have released as pairs - one game comes out the first year, and its sequel (prequel, in Berseria's c🃏ase) comes out the next - keeping the wait technically at around 3 years.
Just from the glimpses we've been able to get from the trailer, though, the wait for Arise will prove worth it even if it doesn't release early next year. The first game in the series built on Unreal engine, Arise looks to have some truly spectacular graphics, and breaks from Tales series tradition a bit in terms of art direction. While it's still stylized, it has a much darker aesthetic than the previous games (doubly surprising if you played Berseria, a game which certainly would have lent itself to a dark-and-edgy look to go with its story). It's not going to deviate completely though - according to Bandai Namco, they've got series veterans dating all the way back to Phantasia working on Arཧise, so whatever new directions it may take, we can be confident it'll have the usual Tales series charm.
For those of us who've been eager to play since the trailer came out, it seems keeping an eye on the rating boards might be a good means of keeping hope alive for an ea𒈔rlier 2021 release.
