How To Beat Nimus Pandemonium In Tales Of Arise: Beyond The Dawn
Being the first boss encounter of the Beyond the Dawn expansion in Tales of Arise, Nimus Pandemonium isn't going to be an insurmountable beast by any means, but it still possesses some extremely powerful attacks that can wipe your entire Party if you aren't adequately prepared.
For this encounter, we strongly urge you to have at least one full-party Healer present who can constantly replenish your Party's HP when it gets low and even resurrect them if they happen to fall in battle. We feel Shionne is the best for this fight, but Dohalim will work as well if you prefer him, so long as either of them is an ac♋tive party member.
Our Party consisted of Alphen, Shionne, Rinwell, and Law. But you can easily swap Law out for Dohalim if you prefer extra Magical Damage and Healing capabilities. Kisara could also be of use if you find yourself needing the extra Defensive buffs and protections.
We also strongly recommend controlling Alphen for this entire encounter and having the following Artes equipped in your Arte Set: Lightning Thrust, Stardust, and Rising Falcon. These Artes are easily spammable during the whole battle and will deal tons of damage as a result!
Before initiating the encounter, please ensure Shionne or Dohalim have Healing Artes equipped. Since Nimus Pandemonium isn't Weak or Resistant to any one Element, most attack Artes and combinations should be fine for the most part!
Phase One: Lightning Thrust > Stardust > Rising Falcon Spam
As touched on above, you will be spamming the following Arte Combo throughout the entire encounter: Lightning Thrust > Stardust > Rising Falcon. The Nimus Pandemonium is an oddly shaped mons💃ter, with its weak spots positioned high above the ground in its four red faces.
Lightning Thrust will send Alphen high into the air with a forceful strike, enabling him to perform his Stardust action, which can be spammed several times before ultimately concluding with Rising Falcon, which sends him hurtling back to the ground with tremendous force.
Phase One: Nimus Pandemonium - Charge, Leap, And Slam
When spamming your combo, minding your own business, there is one attack of Nimus Pandemonium's you should be wary of in the first phase, and that's its Charge, Leap, and Slam combo.
This combo of Nimus' has it gather a large amount of energy at the base of its body before suddenly leaping high into the air, causing it to disappear from your view. After a brief pause, Nimus will come crashing down with tremendous force, dealing severe damage to anyone in the area.
To avoid this action, either move away from the blast radius or time your Evade (R2 PlayStation or RT Xbox) just as it lands to land a Perfect Dodge, enabling you to follow up with a devastating slash.
If this hits you in the first phase, you should be fine, as Shionne or Dohalim will top your health up, but you shouldജ try dodging this as it gets much, much worse in the second phase.
Phase One: Boost Strike Into Phase Two
Everything above is the general flow and strategy of the first phase, which ends after you shave Nimus Pandemonium's health down halfway. This will prompt you to perform a devastating Boost Strike, taking you directly into the second phase!
Phase Two: Lightning Thust > Stardust > Rising Falcon Spam (Part Two)
Once the second phase begins, you will still be relying on your trusty Lightning Thrust > Stardust > Rising Falcon Arte Combo and will be spamming it just as much as the first phase. At least in the early goings.
Phase Two: Nimus Pandemonium - Charge, Leap, And Slam (Part Two)
Keep spamming your combo until Nimus begins building energy again before suddenly leaping out of frame once more, causing it to come hurtling into the ground with tremendous force and power. Like before, this can be evaded by timing a Perfect Evade or by running far away from its blast radius.
Unlike last time, however, this combo of Nimus' will hurt. A lot. Much more than last time. Getting hit by this attack dead on can kill most of your Party, so be sure to have a Healing Circle up or be prepared to land a Perfect Evade. You do not want to get hit by this attack.
Phase Two: Nimus Pandemonium - Rapid Slams
Immediately following the second Slam Combo, Nimus will unleash a barrage of Rapid Slams, dealing tremendous damage quickly. This attack is brutal to deal with, especially if you aren't expecting it.
You can run behind Nimus here and keep running away from them to avoid taking damage, or you can test your luck and land several Perfect Evades here to get many powerful follow-up strikes of your own in. Either method works, but please make sure a Healing Circle is up, or the rest of your Party might get killed here.
Phase Two: Nimus Pandemonium - Devastating AoE
After performing its Rapid Slams, you can launch into another series of your broken Arte Combo until you chip away Nimus' health down to the last node on its life bar, causing it to change from yellow to red. Once you're here, prepare for its Devastating AoE attack.
This attack has Nimus conjure a potent AoE around itself that's telegraphed with a thick cloud of deep reds and pinks that swirl around Nimus, dealing mass amount of damage to anyone trapped inside.
When you see this AoE begin getting cast, run away from Nimus and ensure Shionne or Dohalim have a Healing Circle or something equivalent up and patiently wait inside until the action finishes.
You may have to assume control of Law here if he's in your Party, as he will likely keep attacking Nimus and will die... Like he did for us. You could also set your Party Strategy to 'Focus Healing' before this encounter, to have your Party and Healer rely on Healing Arts, having them show a bit more patience for moments like this.
Phase Two: Nimus Pandemonium - Charge And Slam
Following this, you are free to launch into another spam-heavy Arte Combo spree like before until you see Nimus begin channeling energy at the base of its body again. This time, however, Nimus won't leap high into the air like the previous two times. Instead, it will just violently slam its lower body downward with tremendous force.
While this can trip you up when you expect it to jump, it will be dodged like the previous slams. You can either run away from Nimus or time a Perfect Evade!
Phase Two: Nimus Pandemonium - Rapid Slams (Part Two)
Immediately following that attack, Nimus will launch into another series of Rapid Slams. Again, like last time, you can avoid this attack by running behind it and continuing to run past it, or you can time several Perfect Evades to maximize your damage.
Once more, please ensure you have a Healing Circle or something similar up for you and your Party M༒embers, as this can annihilate most of your Party if they get caug💫ht in the rampage!
Phase Two: Nimus Pandemonium - Devastating AoE (Part Two)
From here, you can continue your onslaught until you almost deplete Nimus' health. Once this happens, Nimus will begin conjuring a thick blue AoE around itself, signaling you to go all out.
Unlike the previous AoE attack, this one doesn't deal damage until it finishes being cast, so you can continue attacking Nimus with everything you got until you defeat it!
Phase Two: Nimus Pandemonium - Boost Strike For The Win
Lastly, with Nimus' health fully depleted, you can perform a final Boost Strike to deliver the finishing blow, ending thಞe encou𒁃nter! Congrats!
