(Ir)rational Hatred is a side quest given by Keeper Gwylan at the Horns Of The Shadow Keep that starts a chain of side quests for him.

You can find him by going towards the back side of the keep, up the hill, climbing the stairs around the nearby tower, and then going on to the bridge leading to another tower. Speak with him, and he'll mention his seagull plight and ask you to find something to scare them off.

Go back to the keep's entrance and take the stairs up to the central building, then enter the door that says Captain's Quarters. Inside is the keep's museum, and you'll need to speak to Rhydderic in the back room, who will tell you about the Seaguller's Mask.

All Seagull Trap Locations

The four traps each have a particular location where they can be placed, and they're spread out across the entire keep. When approaching the right spot, you'll get a prompt to Set A Trap.

  • The first trap is placed under the stairs of the scaffolding on the far west side of the keep. It can be reached by climbing the staircase up to the bridge where Gwylan is, crossing over the wooden bridge next to him to the other side, then going beneath the staircase on the platform you end up on.
  • The second trap is placed against a broken wall south of the keep's lighthouse. It can be reached by following the same path to the first trap, then going up the stairs and across the wooden bridge to the broken section of cliff where the lighthouse is. Go down the stairs and through the ruined doorway, and the trap can be placed on the left side of the wall.
  • The third trap is placed on a small section of wall on a section of tower above the entrance, and it can be reached by taking the staircase around the large tree near the blacksmith, going up and around across the scaffolding, and up the stairs to the tower. Go through it and up to the top of the stone stairs, then turn left and go around the corner to the small wall section where the trap can go.
  • The fourth and final trap is placed on the edge of a window of the northernmost tower, and it can be reached by going up to the bridge where Gwylan is standing, and following the path around until you reach a tower with a large drop outside the window and an overturned table.

You can find several food items and crafting reagents in the crates and barrels inside the towers, and taking them isn't considered stealing like it is in other parts of the keep.

Having one Perception gives you a 25 percent chance of succeeding, while having at least four guarantees the option succeeds.

Head back down to the central floor and speak with Fearghas about Gwylan. During the conversation with Fearghas, you'll have an option to bring up Gwylan getting worse, and you'll need to pass a Perception check.

  • If you lose the Perception check, it will end that section of Eternal War. You get 100 EXP for completing it, and Gwylan will still be on the wall.
  • If you pass the Perception check, you'll get a slightly different response and an additional 50 EXP for passing the check on top of the base 100 for the quest. Now, Gwylan will be stationed inside the Barracks instead.
