What makes these quests more complex is the constant presence of choice. The game doesn't always tell you when a decision matters, but the effects can appear later, shaping outcomes, changing dialogue, or altering what kind of reward you end up with. It's not always clear what the consequences will be 💫as well, which keeps you guessing with every move you make.

How To Start The Burdening Letter Quest

You first need to start the Tightening the Screws quest and complete it in order to reach the location where you can read the Letter Written in Coal. After you do that, the Burdening Letter quest ꦍwill start automatically.

For this quest, there are multiple ways to complete it depending on who you choose to give the letter to, and we will go over all the poꦫssi꧋ble options to complete the quest. But first, make sure you exit the cave.

Make sure that you do PICK UP the letter and not just read it, and double check that you have it in your inventory, otherwise you will not hav🧔e access to all the possible choices.!!

Who Should You Give The Letter To?

Give The Letter To Caed

The first option is to give it to Caed, head of the workers who sent you to investigate the sabotage. He is located at the camp near the Last Tree.

He will be thankful that you took the risk to investigate and will send the news to Denholm, who will take matters iౠnto his own hands.

Give The Letter To Denholm

The second option is to deliver the letter personally to Denholm himself. He can be found at his usual location northwest of Cuanacht.

When you speak to him, pick the option that mentions the letter, and he will be surprised, asking you to keep the matter secret.

You can even pressure Denholm int༒o giving you extra money if he wants to make sure you stay quiet. You can ask for even more i꧟f you push him.

Track The Writer Of The Letter

The third and final option is to find the writer of the letter and confront him directly. The writer is Erfyr, and he can be found just east of Denholm.

When you speak to him, pick the leꩲtter-related dialogue and he will admit he was the one who wrote it. This will leave you with a choice:

  • You can either keep the information to yourself and agree not to tell anyone, keeping the whole thing discreet.
  • However, if you choose the 'I'll think about it' option, he will point out that you've already handed him the letter, and now you have no proof. He outsmarts you.
